Georgia just hired a defensive coach that specializes in pass rush and may improve sack numbers.

He’s from South Augusta. He was with Thacker at Georgia Tech during the Collins era.

His last year at Arky State, he had four d linemen get all conference honors at year end and averaged 3 sacks a game.

I think our sack numbers were likely to improve even if the other guy had stayed. Our DL as a whole will be improved IMO. Plus, I think Kirby used a conservative pass rush intentionally at times.

But you have to take that with a grain of salt and look at the level of competition.

Why? Unless they stacked 15 in one game against southwest Minnesota state

That and it’s not like Arky state had a bunch of guys poached or going pro so he didn’t just happen into some loaded situation there.

Arkansas State got 16 sacks from their edge rushers last season, so that's good. Way more than we had. But then we might have just set the college football record for fewest sacks by edge rushers in a season (2). Sacks have only been a stat in college football for the last 25 years, so it could seriously be the frigging record lol.

Brooks Austin says that we are recruiting size in the front 4. Sacrificing sack artists for players who can hold the point... hold the edge...and use length to bat down passes at the line of scrimmage.

Offenses are either too focused on getting the ball out at 2 seconds or Offenses are built on QBs who are athletic enough to evade cornerbacks. So... keep the QB in the pocket and bat the pass down.

The logic makes sense.
But we still need to execute (knock those passes down)
