A Rivalry and a Reunion

quote:

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The date was set and a blast notification sent out.

The Florida Gators, the 2025 NCAA men's basketball champions, had been booked for a May 21 visit to the White House.

Their run to the title ended less than a month before. Several coaches and staff members had moved on to different jobs. The team's star players were jet-setting around the country as part of the NBA evaluation process. Three others transferred to new schools. Regardless of their whereabouts, the University Athletic Association was committed to arranging travel for everyone to be together again for the ceremony in Washington, D.C.

Denzel Aberdeen declined.

Aberdeen, the standout reserve and first guard off the bench, played a pivotal, unforgettable role on that championship squad, at one point starting four consecutive games during a stretch of Southeastern Conference wins. Aberdeen, however, had transferred to – of all places – the University of Kentucky a few weeks earlier. The soft-spoken, understated point guard thought it best to avoid the awkwardness of the situation.

Walter Clayton Jr., though, wasn't having it. The NCAA hero and first first-team All American in program history reached out to his teammate, the one they affectionately called "Zel," and made it clear that the team not only wanted Aberdeen there, but needed him there. Will Richard and Alijah Martin seconded the motion.

Their message: "We love you and you're going. Period!"

It's gaaaaaamedaaaaaaay.

BBN is hyped. Florida is rolling again this year. We have a terrible habit of playing grabass the first half and then coming back and winning the second half. If we allow ourselves to get down v the Gators today, it's going to get ugly. We've got to come out guns blazing for 40 minutes. I expect a battle.

Alabama bringing back the retro uniforms today. Don’t think they’ve been worn since the elite eight win vs Clemson

Kentucky is the only team on the UF schedule that we didn't beat last season. Our other 3 losses were against teams we played twice (or 3 times) and won the other game(s). Tennessee, Missouri and Georgia.

So.....REVENGE!!!!!

My storyline: Moreno will get in foul trouble early and Garrison will end up with one fight and one technical.

I just hope Aberdeen keeps his head about him and doesn't try to fricking overdo it. We need him cool and collected. Oweh needs to lead the charge today.

Those Bama uniforms should be permanent as should Arkansas' '94-'95 era uniforms.

Arkansas had 12k fans last night in Dallas for the baseball game. I think it’ll be about the same tonight. I wonder if the Bud will be full being that they are playing at the same exact time the baseball team is playing.

Agreed. Y'all uniforms in Nolans heydey were clean and classic. Plus the Hog jumping through the A logo. Far superior.

This font y'all use now on uniforms just sucks IMO:

Agreed. I do like the one with the A logo over left breast. The others all have terrible font.

The new Nike Arkansas football uniforms look a frick load better IMO. Again....the font.

Aside from Kentucky at Florida, this is not a good slate of games.

The “D” announcing team for ESPN gets its shot at calling Ole Miss-MSU…2 teams below .500 battling for 12th in the conference.

No matter how mid we are in basketball we make motherfrickers call back players, have ghey white outs, and pack fat southern asses in seats.

Undeniable.

We are going to struggle inside. Have to hope Mo plays great and doesn't get into foul trouble. Then Oweh, Chandler, Aberdeen, Noah, and Johnson have to score 60+ between them.
