We stayed at the Renassaince on Bluebonnet Blvd….I always read on this site about what a shithole Baton Rouge is, even from Tiger fans. All I can say is that area is pretty damn nice…I’m guessing the north side of town is a different story?

Run over to Drago’s for some grilled oysters if you are still there.

Definitely the nicest hotel in Baton Rouge. I go for work every few weeks, and typically the rate at the Renaissance is $500+ per night. I think it mostly fills up with conventions and people staying there get a convention rate. If you eat over that way, there are lots of good options and it feels very safe.

I usually end up staying at the big Marriott or the Courtyard just across the interstate. It’s closer to campus and honestly, I’ve never really felt unsafe there either.

You want to avoid downtown at all costs. It’s rough over there.

You can always tell the people whose entire Baton Rouge experience was from I10 to Tiger Stadium and back

But yeah, College Station is the epitome of beauty and wealth.

More like a city with a highway running right through it that’s completely brown outside of a few recently planted trees

Hospital conference? I was there as well. I agree with you on the area being very nice.

A shooting did happen not far from there though while we were there

news story

quote:

20-year-old was taken into custody in connection with a deadly shooting in a parking garage on Monday night, Feb. 9.

According to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested Chad Howard, 20, on charges of negligent homicide, possession of stolen things, and obstruction of justice.

quote:

The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. on the second floor of the parking garage located at 10,000 Perkins Rowe.

quote:

According to the sheriff’s office investigation, Carter had met his friend, Howard, in the parking garage when a firearm was accidentally discharged, hitting Carter.

Deputies said Howard remained on the scene and admitted that he accidentally shot Carter with a 9mm handgun, which he threw into the lower level of the parking garage after the shooting.

This is the area we talk about that is closer to campus than where all of the crime is.

Correct. That is the area to avoid. Otherwise you're good.

You're in St George. Nice area.

I climbed that building a few times when it was just an empty husk that the preacher man ran out of money for.

A fricking shame. Kip Holden and a lot of property owners worked their asses off to revitalize downtown and that bitch gutted all funding out of spite.

There was a drive by shootout in broad daylight on like a Tuesday at a red light in traffic in front of the mall of Louisiana entrance sign. Bluebonnet . Stuff like that is why..multiple people killed . I remember a video of the target dead on the ground with blood stains from gunshot wounds.
