If tweet fails to load, click here. FWIW, Darnold's fiance is a UofSC girl ... was my Goddaughter's roommate. Her parents and she spent a lot of time at our Cockaboose. Really good people.
Always heard really good things about Sam.
Total ripoff by California. I hope it backfires on them.

Would love to see a breakdown of what the cost for a professional athlete is to play in California versus a no state tax state like Florida or Texas.
California is a stunningly gorgeous state ruined by the people who live in it.

That’s insane if accurate.

No kidding. Darnold raked in $40 million last year. I think he can afford it. And this is not news. The jock tax has been around in California for decades.

it isn't a question of if he can afford it, it is how fricking stupid is it that he, and everyone else that plays has to lose money.

Even worse, he didn’t volunteer to go play a game in shitty California. It’s not like he took a job there. He can’t work in his field without being subjected to CA state taxes.

These are multimillionaire problems. But Darnold's not complaining. And the NFL isn't complaining, either, as it has played many SBs in California since the jock tax was implemented in 1991. The NFLPA ain't complaining, either. So who is bothered besides a few grumpy old men totally unaffected?

It's just because of his giant Salary. If you look at someone like Jalen Milroe with a rookie contract, he gets the 178K Super Bowl Bonus, but only pays California like 6K Taxes for this game.

It will take players saying, "I will not participate in games in that state."

Far more states with “jock tax” than no tax. They could alternatively play in Texas every year. I’m sure Jerry would support it.

..and they are back in LA at SoFi next year.
