What’s the deal with Kaden Magwood?

So it looks like they’re moving Kevin Overton to back up Pettiford and run the point when he’s not in there. Makes me wonder what happened to Kaden Magwood? I knew he was in the doghouse but good grief…it’s been weeks since we’ve even heard anything. Must have been a pretty egregious violation to make all these moves just to avoid playing him.

He called Coach Pearl a bitch on his backup social media account and then deleted it but not fast enough that it didn't get out. It's hard to walk that one back and still maintain control over the locker room. I believe the only reason he wasn't immediately kicked off the team is that he played for Overtime Elite in AAU

Wow. Missed that entirely. I bet that’s it for him this year then. What an idiot.

I have been the most critical of SP on this board.

My mind will never change.

If the sin is so bad - remove him from the team.

If not, let him repent in public the same way he shamed you in public.

He is a freshman. I guess he is allowed one mistake a year. Then no playing time.

Problem is, nobody knows how this was handled within. Maybe SP wanted to kick him off the team but Kaden begged to stay on. Maybe Kaden’s parents told their son “you made this bed, you’re going to lie in it”. Maybe SP sat down with him and his parents and they all agreed the punishment fit the crime. Maybe Kaden told SP he was done and somebody on staff stepped in and talked him out of it. It’s all speculation as to what and how it went down after the incident but he only has himself to blame for the mess he put the team and staff in.

There are a lot of “maybe” out there but recruits are not as old as us and don’t understand the difficulties of being in authority.

The kids in high school or college (in transfer portal) will look at Nate Oats and say “as long as I don’t kill someone - he will let me play.” Even the guys who are not bad kids. We all make mistakes and we all need forgiveness.

But no one wants to play for an intolerant coach and no one wants to work for an intolerant leader.

You want leadership with high expectations and strict guidelines for success - but not “one slip up and you are dead to me”.

Being on the team is not a reward. Playing time is a reward.

Eventually the truth will come out. And most of you that have given the coach “the benefit of the doubt” will probably realize you were wrong. As I said before - if this was Bruce, I would shut up because he has earned my trust over years of difficult situations.

For the future of our program - I really hope I am the one who is wrong. It’s better than the alternative where we coach shopping in 2.5 years.

Magwood is better than the Caboose, but he’s not good enough to curse the coaches on instagram.

I’ve moved on from him as far as this season goes.

I guess Bashir has missed too much time to get minutes now.

Anyway, the guys playing need to shoot better and play better defense, or we will be in the NIT.

Perplexed as to everyone's obsession with this.. Magwood was barely getting any playing time and was eventually removed from the rotation due to horrendous defense and pg play. The following week he called the head coach of the team a "bitch" on Instagram.

Shouldn't shock anyone that he's still riding the bench.

I understand some people are just curious and didn't hear about the social media bit but once you hear it there's really nothing else to discuss here.

Yep and I said it in another thread, but he does seem to be taking the punishment well. I've seen him on the bench/during timeouts multiple times and he doesn't look like he is pouting, is engaged with the team and is hyping guys up some after big plays. I won't begin to know all the details of everything that transpired, but from the little I have seen, it does look like everything is being handled well. He fricked up and has to deal with it, but we also aren't dragging him through the mud and are letting him own his mistake. No need to torpedo his future if he isn't being a problem (which to an outsider it doesn't look like he is right now).

Starting to look like the smartest one is whom ever told Kaden just look good for next years coach.

Because honestly him cheer-leading as Muschalek plays is one hell of an acting job.

Yea, hopefully Simon Walker can start taking those minutes when we move Overton over to the 1.

Top 50 recruit and despite struggling against pressure and the defensive issues he can score. imo he would have thrived in Pettiford's role last year

Yeah but do you want kids like that in Auburn’s program. frick’em. Let them take their lessons, pay the dumbass tax, and play for another school. Oats is a bonafide piece of shite and he will attract other pieces of shite, as witness by his thug arse players. Let them go to play for Oats.

I don’t see Oats as the standard. He is slimy and I don’t want that in my program. I just am pointing out the extreme obvious other end of this example.

If Matt Painter put a kid on the bench all year - I would trust it. For a new coach to take a hard stance - it’s bold. That is all I am saying.

I mean, who gives a shite if he's new or not, the right move is the right move. He lets a player call him a bitch on social media and brings him back and he is tanked as a serious coach and the players run the team at that point. He is forced to take a hard line to a certain extent.

And this is barely different than how Bruce handled Howard last year, so I'm not sure what you are even complaining about.

Realistically he should be off the team sure, but the very reasons you are worried about are probably the reasons he's just permanently on the bench instead. Steven is trying to tow the solid hard line without burning bridges. He got put in a tough spot by Magwood's stupidity.

I don't think it's bold in this case at all

It’s not how great Magwood is.

It is how pathetic #21 is.

It’s very bold to give a Ballboy the minutes of a SEC talent player when you are .500 in conference play.

Is Freeman athletically similar to Howard?

I wanted Howard to succeed.

He messed it up.

As has Magwood.
