Is it just me or does it feel like things are starting to crumble around Drink? Did someone turn on the exhaust fan and remove all the smoke and now there is just mirrors? We dont seem to be making any real noise on the recruiting/portal fronts.

Are we short handed with NIL this year?

Him calling plays in that bowl game was the worst possible thing that could happen.

If you ignore all the games we couldn’t pass for 125 yards total.

And pissed away another great D.

The reputation hits he took that final month or two when everyone was watching him for open jobs to become a punching bag of jokes may be a big part of it. All the fans of those schools revolting on social media if they hired him did a lot of damage in this day n age.

Sounds rational. If that is part of what is happening it seems that it would be Karma for his job flirting to be what lead to the failure at his current job.

I wonder if Lane Kiffin is having a somewhat related fallout, too.

Sorry folks, but rational ain't exactly a word I would use to describe this thread. How bout we judge the portal season when it's over, not just the beginning?

Stating the current status is not judging the portal/recruiting season as the whole. It is commentary on the present and there isn't much else to talk about.

Plus, portal players are being bought up by the minute.

There’s a finite amount of time for life.

If you spend a couple of months chasing jobs, that’s a couple of months where you’re not recruiting with all your available time. I wouldn’t be surprised if our recruiting suffered this year for the reasons above as well as this.

Question: Is there another, later window to pick up transfers or is this it?

Yes. But I don't follow other teams so I can't say it categorically.

When I see true freshmen and players with clear playing time in front of them leaving it's depressing. Maybe it's happening everywhere. One thing I do know is I don't understand what young players want now. It certainly doesn't seem to be getting developed and working their way up through the ranks. It's a huge game of musical chairs where players leave for bags and instant playing time.

Might as well play this while they're visiting every school...

That's true, still very early.

I did see a post that said this time last year Mizzou had the #1 portal class in the SEC/nation and this year it's last in the conference.

Plenty of time to go but that is a very stark difference from last year.

True. We all know it wont affect the annual November hog roast.

Who knows, that hog roast has only been interrupted twice since Mizzou joined the SEC.

You're always invited.

Each November Christmas is approaching, Mizzou logs another win and Arkansas says wait until next year. Have no reason to believe next November will be any different.

Correct. Running updates is what the tracking threads are for. This was merely a thread discussing why we were currently 40th and striking out everywhere compared to previous years. With our rock solid coaching stability and proven track record, seemed really odd to struggle so much relatively.
