I want an offensive overhaul

I just want to see a modern offense. I’m tired of the constant screens and run-heavy approach. Open things up with an explosive passing game where wide receivers and tight ends are actually featured and catching the ball consistently. Not only would that be far more exciting, it would also help attract higher-level receivers and quarterbacks.

We also need to lean into the transfer portal more and do a better job filling our weak spots. Relying on developing 90%+ of the roster from high school recruits and waiting years for them to mature within the culture just isn’t enough anymore. Indiana has shown that a portal-heavy roster can absolutely work.

College football isn’t what it used to be, and yeah, that’s frustrating—but you either adapt or get left behind.

I agree 100%

During that whole game my wife and I were wondering where our quick outs to TEs or RBs were to slow down their rush.

We were a missed FG (by us or them) or a near INT at the end or….

Kirby and the coaches got about as much as they possibly could out of this team this year.

Alabama has what you would consider a modern coach. They sit in shotgun all game and run mostly RPOs.

Indiana would be considered an old school approach with more traditional running style - similar to us.

Certainly means Bama beat that arse right?

I keep seeing/reading this everywhere. “Kirby’s youngest team”… with that being the obvious reasons for tonight’s failures, one would assume we return a lot and should be back next year? Or what’s it gonna be next year? I genuinely curious on what this roster will look like next year.

Given the portal, who knows.

It was an inexperienced team.

Kirby always says when he’s asked about Monken or Bobo that they run theb”Georgia Offense”. That’s fine. Obviously with the talent we had in 21 and 22 and Stetson’s strengths v Gunner’s you can do different things and the offense will look different. Fine. My problem is our offense has to have these damn 4 and 5 stars playing like it at every position to work. Ole Miss has really good skill talent but their O line isn’t great, yet they move the ball at will. That’s because their offense is diverse and doesn’t have to have all 5 of them absolutely dominate in order to work. It’s harder and harder these days to obtain the guys at every position we need for the “Georgia Offense” to work. Why not adjust/ adapt and see what happens?

In this era where you can no longer just out-talent everyone, Kirby is going to have to make one big adjustment. He is eventually going to need to play the QB with the highest ceiling, not the one with the highest floor.

I love Gunner. That dude is one tough SOB and his teammates love him, but we all saw last night that we had some clear limitations in the passing game when Ole Miss adjusted against our run game.

Simply knowing the playbook and not making mistakes isn't going to be good enough anymore. That doesn't work in the NFL, and that's how we need to think of it.

After listening to Kirby earlier this week sing the praises of Mike Bobo then we aren't going to have any overhaul. Same old shite. Look great on one series then play Bobo ball the next two. Bobo doesn't have it in him to make adjustments that Ole Miss came out with in the second half.
Sick to death of watching this crap week in and week out particularly after watching Oregon, Indiana, Texas and Ole Miss run an offense like it is supposed to be run.

Let’s not go overboard here. This was one game and offense was pretty damn good the rest of the season. They kept us in games early when the defense sucked and we controlled TX and Bama pretty well.

I have no desire to watch that abortion if a game again but our OLine play sucked last night…including snapping on a 4th that were wanting to take a delay of game. Gunner had very little time to let plays develop and had what, 5 balls batted down?

Poor OL play, being over conservative with the lead, questionable play calling and Chambliss playing out of his mind are what happened to us last night.

We didn’t lose last night because of the offense. We lost because a freshman center made a crucial mistake and Chambliss played like prime Vince Young. Sometimes you just get beat by an insane performance.

5 straight three and outs with a chance to extend a 21-12 lead is what let Ole Miss back into the game.

343 total yards and 3.4 yards per rush against a dreadful Ole Miss defense is not good enough.

This. If Georgia takes a 28-12 lead either right before the half or scores on any of the 2-3 drives after the half, the outcome is likely never in doubt.

The same thing happened against Texas basically, but they weren’t good enough on offense to punish Georgia for going into an offensive shell for the middle half of the game.

Coaches talk about the “middle 8” a lot now, where the 4 mins before and after the half can have an outsized impact on the game. Georgia had several opportunities for a kill shot in that time frame after the fumble return, and responded by going 3 and out over and over again.

The Bulldogs have a different offensive identity this season. They are rarely going to hit explosive plays like the ones that lifted them into the top nine of scoring offenses during their 2021 and 2022 national championship winning seasons.

Instead, Georgia aims to physically wear down its opponents, as demonstrated with its 16-play, 78-yard touchdown drive to seal the game against Auburn.

"That's really who we are," head coach Kirby Smart said. "We don't have these explosive plays. I've come to the conclusion, yeah, I want them. Yeah, we're going to scheme for them…But that's who we are."

This Manball philosophy is hurting Georgia. I thought we learned this lesson already.

Except that at least 1/3 of the NFL would kill to have a quarterback who does know the playbook and doesn't make mistakes. There aren't even 32 good (by NFL standards) quarterback in the NFL.

While teams want that so they don't completely suck, that isn't the formula to win a Super Bowl or make a deep playoff run. You need a lot more than that at QB.
