Is there a more obvious sleeping giant than Georgia was?

And is it is Georgia Tech?
This phenomenon is real , there are programs that need the right touch to unlock. Saban did it at LSU. Kirby at UGA.
Texas A&M is right there too.
We knew for years that Richt had Georgia on the cusp of greatness.
Georgia Tech is one of those schools that manufactures a very wealthy alum base. Brent Key has done awesome work there. They have any sort of sustained success and wallets will open. I know a LOT of Ga Tech fans ready for the bubble to burst.
Any others?
The flip side is schools like Oregon who dismantle the regular season and never have the toughness to finish in post.
Ive always thought Auburn could explode under the right leadership too.

From Chy-Na.
They don't give a rat's arse about athletics. They'd rather the rat's arse be in the egg foo yung.

Coach Bryant always said UF was a sleeping giant, and he was right. They can re-awaken with the right coach too. Not sure if Sumrall is that guy.

Didn't win their conference, didn't even get to play in their conference champ game, and hasn't under Brent Key to date, had a magical 9-3 season capped off with the Pop-Tart bowl tomorrow, they are only in because Notre Dame declined the bid.
All with a pre-season hypeman, I mean Heisman frontrunner at QB, who is gone now. Along with their OC who went to Florida in a lateral move, because he has enough sense to know when a ship is sinking and to get into a life raft.
Georgia Tech is a dead program and nobody can revive it. CPR is an exercise of compassion on a dead body at this point.

Texas should be what Alabama is historically. Not sure what has kept them from getting there.

Asians and nerds don’t care about sports.

Arrogance and idiotic coaching hires mostly.
And a fanbase that seems mostly content with winning a lot of games but being embarrassed by the great teams we play. Ironic, since they make fun of the ags “moral victories” but we are the kings of it.
Sark is 0-7 vs day, smart, and deboer and his seat isn’t even luke warm. We are a laughing stock.

Florida wasted the 1970s. You could finally sign black players, and the state of Florida had more good black players than any state in the country, and Florida State and Miami were still farting around and not taking football seriously.

No. They have a decent coach and still can't win the horrible ACC.
The campus sucks. Campus life sucks. The stadium is beyond horrible.
It's not happening for tech.
I'm surprised aTm hasn't been able to turn the corner. Texas should be Alabama. I'm surprised Southern Cal isn't more successful.
But Georgia Tech?

Georgia Tech left the SEC and the NFL awarded a franchise to Atlanta in the same year. It was a really bad year for the Tech program.

Pretty much. Florida was the most obvious sleeping giant, and Spurrier proved it by creating a juggernaut. Then Florida proved they could keep it going with Urban Meyer making them even better.
What amazes me is what happened after. FSU sucks, Miami struggled, and you would think Florida would have flat dominated.
But instead they tanked. Still hard for me to understand how it turned so bad so fast for the gators.

I think you're right, it's still hard for me to wrap my brain around. No place was better set up for success than Florida after Spurrier and then Urban. I get a dip in success, but not the downward spiral. But yeah, I think you're right.

Sometimes I play up the theatrics for the rants but I’m am earnest about my hate for the UAA and them being the root of the troubles at UF

The booster support at UF is not nationally elite.
It could be… but it isn’t.
