The two programs had been tied at 27 seasons of 11 wins or more. With Alabama's 34-24 win over the Sooners on Friday, they now take sole possession of first place.
1. Alabama - 28 seasons
2. Oklahoma - 27 seasons
3. Ohio State - 21 seasons
4. Penn State - 19 seasons
5. Florida State - 15 seasons
Georgia is closing in fast with 14 seasons of 11 wins or more. They'll likely tie Florida State here in the very near future.

Until recently, Alabama did it in the West Division

4 Of these things is not the like the other. Alabama leads the way having done it in a conference where 6 charter members are in the top 15 winningest programs in all time. Oklahoma and Ohio State did it in conferences with one other member in the top 15 and Penn State did it with NONE....as did Florida State. The fact that UGA is 6th (?) on this list and will most likely replace FSU next season in the same conference as Alabama speaks volumes about how tough the SEC is, top to bottom, compared to every other conference in CFB.

How many of those 11-win seasons ended in a title? Boy, did this test just get a lot harder.

It's really like 100 seasons if you take out the times Bama beat itself.

Oklahoma’s 11+ win seasons that ended in a title:
1974: 11-0-0
1975: 11-1-0
1985: 11-1-0
2000: 13-0
Fewer games in the fifties:
1950: 10-0-0; title won before Sugar Bowl loss to Kentucky.
1955: 10-0-0; title won before bowl win.
1956: 10-0-0; title won, no bowl because of repeat rule.
1974: 11-0-0
1975: 11-1-0
1985: 11-1-0

The SEC didn't become the swinging dick until the 2000s. Take away Alabama, and the SEC only 3 national championship teams (Florida 19996, Georgia 1980 and Tennessee 1998) between 1965 and 2003.
If you go back and look and compare the conference records to the overall records during this time, a lot of SEC teams were losing multiple out of conference games and had some serious clunkers.
There were some SEC programs that would get on a roll for a a few years, but then they'd come back to earth.

I knew you had some hardware to show for your efforts. Just wondering who comes in above the Sooners in the SEC.

Talk about adding insult to injury

That’s pretty good company. I’m surprised Michigan and ND aren’t in there.

Now go back and look at where the majority of those 11 win seasons happened considering we only had 11 game regular seasons until like 2002 or so. Before 1992 there wasn't an SEC Championship game, so that was also one less game per year.
16 of Alabama's on the list came after 2007.
3 of them came under Stallings, 4 of them if 1993 counts.
9 of them came under Bear.
