3 National Championships with a young hungry coach that can win some more. Is there enough support at UF for this?

Well we are a basketball school now. Our CFP appearance in 35 years will be like Indiana’s.

I can’t believe how a school like UF and all of its resources can’t seem to get the football program together. The Gator fans I know would trade basketball success for football success in a heartbeat.

I pretty much grew up in central Florida and I loathe everything UF (FU) - however, from an objective standpoint - UF football should be a consistent Top 10-15 team.

But - hopefully FU leadership will continue to fail miserably for years to come.

You Gator fans at Edgewater High in Orlando from 1986-89 - “FU” all!!! (In good fun of course)

The school seems to have shifted to a basketball power program first and football second. Baseball will always be solid there with all that talent.

Only if Golden can stay away from stalking the 20 year old co-Ed’s walking around Gainesville

I’ve been saying for the past few years UF should join the ACC to go all in on basketball and consider folding the football program

I’d pump the breaks a bit. They currently have just one Quad 1 win (#35 Miami) and are sitting with a Quad 2 loss (#66 TCU).

I think Golden is a great coach, but I also think in the age of the portal and NIL, we’re going to see a lot more programs make deep tournament runs. The Championships and Final Fours will be less consolidated with the programs at the top.

I'm not necessarily talking about this year only but the potential of the entire program for years.

No, we are never going to have top recruiting classes like Duke.

In all honesty, as frustrating as the last 12–13 years have been, I think UF has maybe two coaching cycles left before it reaches a point of no return. They somehow have to find the right coach and get elite quarterback play—someone with five-star talent actually performing like it (e.g., Lagway not playing like a two-star). If this continues for another decade, it may take a Cignetti-type miracle to turn things around.

Didn't you like the Sumrall hire like 2 weeks ago?

Nah, there's never a point of no return. This started with the fraud Jeremy Foley. He convinced the PTB that UF didn't have to invest in modern facilities and amenities. His own arrogance lead him to believe that UF was above that. He didn't hire Spurrier and the old ball coach didn't need it back in the day. Then he lucked into Urban because Machen came from Utah and they beat ND to the punch. He hired folks who weren't good enough like Zook, Muschamp and McIlwain.
Stricklin has been no better.
UF is just back to being what they were: the so called "sleeping giant" but the landscape has changed. A better AD and dollar commitment can right the ship.

If you’re as familiar with UF as you claim then you already know the answer but let’s beat the dead horse even more.

Meyer chose UF for all the reasons he’s repeated for the last 20 years.
ND wasn’t beating out UF for Meyer, period.

The fact that this thread has turned into a football discussion on the first page leads me to think it’s not very likely.
