Probably be a minute before we get another dominant coach like him. Will have to be someone who comes up in the NIL era and figures out how to exploit it while still getting players to fully buy in.

I guarantee you that Day has been indirectly influenced by Saban.

The more you think about it, this feels like one of those sports milestones that will never happen again. How many future coaches could have close to 6 of 8 in a playoff?

We may never see an influence like him again in this sport

My guess he is not done and when an independent body takes over CFB to get everything under control I think he will be involved and would not doubt in a leadership role.

We had it before with Bear Bryant. There will be another and he will also be in Tuscaloosa.

I know why you put Golding up there but since it was game #1 as a HC for him (vs the worst playoff contender let in to date) it should truly be Kiffin/Golding * ;)

And you are about see Kiffin in that list a WHOLE lot more and you know it

A lot of the current players are Deboers, not saban.

There’s Deonte Lawson and a couple, but pretty much all coaches and players are his.

Simpson was a recruit by Saban but the only time he saw the field was at USF three years ago, and saban pulled him after two plays. He was the third string behind Milrun and the Asian kid from Notre Dame.

They use the same colorist.

I am a little curious...and maybe an Alabama fan will know the answer...how many players on the roster were signed by Saban and how many were signed by Deboer?

Not many. On offense there’s Jam Miller and Ty Simpson, but neither saw the field and were way down on the depth charts. Proctore the left tackle was a recruit, but he transferred once Nick committed to retiring, then came back under Deboer.

Defense there’s Deonte Lawson, but maybe a couple of more. This next year will be 100% Deboer. Right now I’d say about 95% it’s his.

Bear didn’t have the kind of influence Saban had with assistants, largely due to the fact that so many assistants rotated through with Saban. In Bear’s day, assistant coaches (and head coaches) stayed at programs longer. I’m not saying he didn’t have a big assistant coach tree, but not like Saban’s.

Bear’s wider spread influence was with the players who later coached.

Didn't Saban come from the Belichik coaching tree?

Yes, who came from the Bill Parcells coaching tree...

Guess who Parcells came from? Steve Sloan, who came from the Bear Bryant tree.

Actually the Parcells-Belichick coaching tree started under Ray Perkins when he was head coach at the New York Giants. Parcells was OL coach and Belichick was DC. Parcells became HC when Perkins came to Alabama when Bryant retired. Perkins was part of the Bryant coaching tree as well as Don Shula's.
