Of course. I've said throughout the coaching carousel that the only time to think any rumors of other teams interested in your coach are real is when your coach gets an extension.

I believe that DeBoer didn’t talk to anyone but I don’t think that can be said about his agent. The agent probably let Byrne know that Michigan had an offer that he was going to put in front of DeBoer.

When Michigan and Penn State want your coach you either extend him or move on.

I’m damn glad we aren’t letting him walk because watching our team healthy with functional QB midseason was damn impressive.

We ever get a QB and functional OL at the same time watch out.

He zealously promotes the interests of his clients. It’s his job.

And he's very good at it.

The timing is unfortunate for Bama. We needed 3 years to see the real deal. Bama would owe him 40 million at the end of 3 years. They revise his deal and you're back to 70 million again and stuck with him.

If they give him an extension it means they are all in on him regardless of message board conversation.

This was a given after the October stretch and the SEC Championship Game.

It's been a foregone conclusion most of this year with Drinkwitz/Kiffin getting bumped

Maybe, maybe not.

There are a million ways this extension/raise can be negotiated (e.g., higher annual salary without modifying the buyout, higher annual salary with a higher buyout if he leaves for another job, etc.). Of course, the option you mention (i.e., higher annual salary, more years, escalated buyout if he's fired) is certainly one way Sexton/KDB could approach things as well.

Just pay him 15 per year and a buyout of 20 million. Everybody has skin in the game.

I wouldn’t give him shite. We’d work the existing contract. If he wanted to go to Michigan I would let him. These coaches get these extreme extensions with huge buyouts and then lay down like Jimbo Fisher, Brian Kelley, etc.

That said, I think he’s a solid coach. He sounds like he wants to be here so I’m glad to have him.

Yeah? Who would you bring in to replace him?

What kind of roster turnover would you anticipate if he left?

I mean, as a fan, I feel you. However, these decisions get made like a business. It is bad business to let your coach walk this late in the process. You're not only blowing your program up short term, but you're likely making a subpar hire too.

It’s always folks that don’t pay a single red cent toward anything Bama related aside from a Walmart t-shirt worrying about how much the extension is, NiL, etc.

They should give him an extension, but increase the buyout on his end (which is now relatively low). That would be a signal of commitment from both parties.
Losing our staff, including Courtney Morgan(and half our players at this time to the portal) would be devastating to our program.
