Michigan bows out and is replaced by a humbled ND?

Stranger things have happened.

Michigan bows out . . .

Don't know yet what the UM roster will look like but the UT depth chart is going to see a lot of #2's starting.

Texas Longhorns Cheez-It Citrus Bowl opt-out list:

Texas Defense:

LB Anthony Hill Jr.
S Michael Taaffe
CB Malik Muhammad
DE Ethan Burke
LB/DE Trey Moore
CB Jaylon Guilbeau
DT Melvin Hills III
CB Santana Wilson
DB Derek Williams Jr
LB Liona Lefau

Texas Offense:

RB CJ Baxter
QB Trey Owens
WR Aaron Butler
OL Connor Stroh
RB Jerrick Gibson

This is just sad. I'm not picking on just the longhorns.
I know every fricking team will have these losses.
I'm sure when teams start falling out of the playoffs there will be a rush to the portal on said teams.

Pretty much so but in some of the cases the replacements may be better, Alot of good young number 2s .

Those opt outs gonna make it look like a spring game. Which is pretty much what bowls are these days.

A few but for the most part its 7 D starters with 2 All Americans and 1. starters on Offense.

Its not even close to the same team.

Last year I commented that I thought these meaningless bowl games should be moved to the end of spring training. Scatter spring training end dates over a couple of weekends and have about 16 or so games over 2 weeks.

There aren’t nearly as many bowl opt outs as people think for most bowl games. There are a few exceptions (like the QBs in the Cure bowl today), but generally guys play. The big programs sitting out is a self induced “bowls don’t matter” - viewership for bowl games was at an all time high last year

Should be required in NIL contracts that bowl games are included or they have to pay it back

Yeah, having so many young guys on the field against P4 competition actually makes this game a bit more fun. Much better sneak peak than the spring script we get to see.

LB is so thin, you might see Sarks son starting. It’ll be interesting to see if we can stop the run.

What? There are players opting out everywhere and have been for years now .

In the past it would be just the guys expected to go pro that year sitting out. Usually only the guys expected to go early rounds

Now you have players opting out who think they can get a big paycheck in the portal. If you look at the opt out list for G5 schools, most of them dont sit out (even some of the ones transferring/going pro).

Its mostly a P4 problem of "bowls dont matter" and its a choice. People should be able to get excited about games like Texas vs Michigan or PSU vs Clemson without the rosters being all funked up
