He stood up for the program today while Damien Harris and Mark Ingram threw us under the bus. As much crap as GMAC gets he deserves a lot of credit. Mark is known as a hardcore Gump but he betrayed the program yesterday and it's going to be hard to forget. UA should keep Damien and Mark at arms length going forward.

He didn’t betray anything. He said what a lot of people on here said “we look like shite. We embarrassed ourselves and don’t deserve to go”

But then that subsides and you feel like “I want us to win. Maybe we can fix these problems in 2 weeks. I’d rather see us play again than not play”

It’s a natural part of fandom. Last night was inexcusable and lots of people were pissed. But we’re still alive.

I was shocked by Marks comments not because he was making them but how and where he did. Make a tweet about it, don’t smoke us for 10mins on the air. Urban freaking Meyer defended us against Mark. I’m fine with an opinion but don’t shoot us while we’re down. It was a double tap.

So, you want to push a couple of former players away because they said what a lot of us said after the game? That would not be a smart thing to do. Those guys gave their heart and soul to this program and helped win NCs.

The fanbase should not tolerate the disrespect and disloyalty shown by Damien and Mark. I've lost all respect for both of them and hope they aren't around the program at all moving forward.

This is a good point.

I think Ingram has let FOX's arse-kissing marching orders for the Big 10 go to his head. Hearing Meyer tell him to calm down while defending us was wild.

Audience capture seems likely. Mark has never been a particularly smart guy but I always believed he was a loyal one. I was wrong. Urban Meyer schooled him.

What a dumb take. Mark Ingram is a Bama man through and through. He is absolutely justified in what he said. We shouldn’t be in. The only reason we are is because of the money we generate; not only through the playoffs, but also because if you take us out, no one in there right mind would play in a conference championship game. ESPN and other associated outlets are not going to let go of a weekend with massive views and the amount of money they make from that. I am a gump to a fault, but I’m also a realist; this team isn’t on any trajectory to win a championship or even be competitive.

Meyer was honestly acting like a coach at that moment. He basically mentored Mark on a live broadcast. He was so calm about it. It was wild.

They're all paid to give opinions. They aren't comms officers for our program. They gave their opinion...

It’s because Mark loves us so much that I think that happened. He was emotional and pissed off. Urban can be objective because it’s not his team.

This board every time we have an unsuccessful play “Fire DeBoer, bench Ty, Jam is shite, Grubb hates Tuscaloosa, we’ll be lucky to win 4 games” and part of that is because 65% of the posters are SPED but it’s also rooted in passion.

Mark is just gumping too hard and there’s a negative version of that too.

I keep hearing this and it’s not true.

Our resume is better. I’m sorry it just flat out is and the numbers support it. We aren’t elite but that’s ok, not every member of the playoff is an elite winning machine.

I don’t disagree he was pissed. He just has a voice that not a lot of former players have. He is on the microphone in front of the world. Millions were watching that.

I get the resume thing, but if we are talking numbers; the one that doesn’t lie is that Alabama is the most watched team in the country. Urban Meyer said it today too. He said that if he was still at Ohio state there is no way he lets his team play the conference championship if they are already a top seed or in the playoffs. He used that as the argument why Bama should get in. Because if not, the conference championships won’t be a thing next year. No one will play because it can only hurt your seeding or chances at the playoffs. I am happy we got our shot, but I can’t honestly say that right now we are competitive with most of the top 12.

Agreed. I don't think the conference championship games are practical going forward though. We might not have gotten punished in seeding but we did get another game of wear and tear and put another week of game tape out there for Venables to prep with. If the upside is maybe getting a bye (which you're essentially negating by playing the extra game) and the downside is injuries or targeting suspensions I just don't see the point.

Not the version we saw yesterday with so many important pieces not playing, but we'll see how things shake out with a relatively healthy 'Bama team.

That regular season schedule really was a monster, and ending it against UGA in a game they didn't need to play with all of those injuries was just horrible timing.

Let's see what some much needed rest and a good gameplan will do before just assuming 'Bama doesn't belong.

I have no issue with Harris or Ingram. They spoke what they were thinking/feeling in the moment. That is what they are paid to do. I also do not expect them to always be the most level headed intelectuals as that has never been a part of who they are.

The biggest point in the argument is "to destroy or not to destroy" conf championship games. McElroy and Meyer both understand that broader view.

Alabama did not play on Saturday evening like they should be in the playoffs. Over the long season they did build up enough value to be in the conversation.
