It's the only way to do it properly.

I'm not even sure that a first round bye is good for a team. Too much time off is not good. 1-2-3-4 playing 16-15-14-13 in the first round would be good for the Top 4 plus they would draw big TV viewership looking for upsets.

16 teams, no byes, it just makes the most sense.

This year Texas, Vandy, ND and BYU would have made the cut.

Indiana would be playing James Madison.
Ohio State would be playing Tulane.
Georgia would be playing BYU
Texas Tech would be playing ND.

Oregon would be playing Texas or Vandy
Ole Miss would be playing Texas or Vandy
Texas A&M would be playing Miami
Alabama would be playing Oklahoma

I do miss this a bit.

Yes, and no G5s, and ditch the committee / bring back the computers.

Even at 16 people would still bitch 12 is plenty. Take out human elements and let computers set the filed and it will be unbiased.

Hard no. 8 teams too many.

Total of 8 teams. Nobody outside 6 will ever win it.

This is the answer. Lock out the G5. They are just cannon fodder.

TV is king ... and it involves big money. So, whether we like it or not they're gonna do it.

You get it.

2 teams only will never happen again.

Rightfully so. Two teams ALWAYS left too many doubts.

Crying for 2 teams is wasted tears. Those days are ling over ... for more than a decade now.

That isn't possible anymore because it would always be the Big 10 champ against the SEC champ... With all the other leagues whining about being locked out.

And if for some reason it ever wasn't the Big vs SEC...... the Big 10 and SEC would be whining about strength of schedule.

16 is good because they are pissing money away with the byes. And this year we would have ended up with good match ups except for 1-16 and 2-15 (assuming Tulane and JMU were 15, 16). Would have loved to have seen Tech and Texas and Georgia against ND or Vandy.

There weren't any doubts, there were cry babies who didn't earn it crying for things they didn't earn.

Of which is never going to stop and still hasn't stopped. In fact, the more teams you add the worse it gets and the worse it will get.

Go ahead, look at all the teams in your 16 team solution that will claim they should be the 16th place team.

So your solution doesn't reduce the crying, it increases. Now it's every year controversy where as the BCS had like 2 years of mildly legit claims and really not even much to be honest.

Adding teams creates more people crying, not less.

I believe in underdogs ... it's the American way. For that matter it's the human species way since forever ... biblically speaking, Greek olympics, Roman Gladiators, etc.

By your metric there are any number of teams, in NCAA basketball, that would have never won the NCAA basketball tournament.

Off the top of my head ... by seeding alone which would have placed them well outside of the Top 25 altogether.

Villanova ... 1985
UConn .... 2014

So, this year it would be:

1. Indiana vs 16 JMU
2. OSU vs 15 Tulane
3. UGA vs 14 Vanderbilt
4. Texas Tech vs 13 Texas
5. Oregon vs 12 BYU
6. Ole Miss vs 11 Notre Dame
7. A&M vs 10 Miami
8. OU vs 9 Bama

Logistically, that’s a lot of travel, and finding TV windows would mean playing on Thursday and even Tuesday.

Bama barely had enough healthy players to play the conf CG. Georgia was nt much better. I hav no idea what other conf champions roster looked like and now you want no off weeks after 12 weeks of sec football with 9 conference games and ne power 4 non conference game. Do you hate the kids playing or what?

The B1G already travels coast to coast for games.

TV windows would be easy if we got rid of all the other bowls all together .... although that's likely to never happen either. Even though bowls cost programs money and CFB is now nothing more than big business run by corporate minded Athletic Departments being dictated to by TV conglomerates.

But I see your point.

I advocate for two teams. This year it’s IU vs Ohio State

Increased roster sizes next year, along with NIL and transfer portals in play, takes care of the injury factor.

Furthermore,

All 16 teams play one extra game.

8 teams play two extra games.

4 teams play three extra games.

2 teams play four extra games.

Only 2 teams would play one extra game than they're already playing now ... if they're a non bye participant.

Even with a bye, as it stands now, they're playing three extra games.

Your argument applies more to getting rid of all conference championship games in all honesty.
