11–1 Debate: Oregon vs SEC (Ole Miss/TAMU).. Conf Depth?

How are we comparing these 11–1 teams without talking about conference depth? The Big Ten is solid, but the SEC still has a deeper lineup top to bottom.
Just look at the current CFP top 15 ahead of final poll— the SEC has Georgia (#3), Ole Miss (#6), A&M (#7), Oklahoma (#8), Alabama (#9), Texas (#13), and Vanderbilt (#14) Seven teams. On a week to week basis, no other conference has to deal with anything close to week-to-week SEC competition. Granted you don't have to play all the top teams record wise, but the talent on the rosters is there regardless of w/l records.
If Ole Miss had Oregon’s schedule, they’re probably 12–0. A&M likely goes 11–1 or 10-2. But if Oregon had to run the either Ole Miss or A&M's schedule, they’re not coming out with one loss. I see 2 or 3 losses with both schedules.
Consistency: If the committee is using the coaching change to justify keeping Ole Miss behind Oregon, then A&M should be ahead of Ole Miss too. They didn’t do that. So the logic only applies when it keeps Oregon at #5, which makes no sense.
Next year the SEC moves to a 9-game league schedule, and this problem gets worse — more brutal games, more “good” losses, and more teams in other conferences cruising to cleaner records.
IMO, the order should be:
5. Ole Miss
6. Texas A&M
7. Oregon

Just looked at all 3 team schedules they’re about the same and could go either way for all 3 teams.

No chance Oregon loses 2 or 3 games with Ole Miss or A&M schedule. I see 11-1 with either schedule. Take off your SEC colored glasses and compare schedules objectively. They're similar in difficulty. Oregon would be favored on a neutral field against Ole Miss or A&M.

There are a lot of good teams in the SEC, but in a 16 team conference, there’s room for plenty of bad teams also.
Both A&M and Ole Miss played a lot of those bad teams. Both had 7-1 conference records, but 5 of those wins were against really bad teams, and I’m not including LSU.
A&M’s best conference win: Missouri
A&M’s second best conf win: LSU
Ole Miss’s best win: Oklahoma
Ole Miss’s second best win: LSU
A&M’s biggest resume booster was a non-conference game.
Ole Miss’s blowout over Tulane is more impressive than any of their SEC wins outside of the OU game

I was just debating this last night that Ole Miss should move ahead of Oregon.
While neither played, Ole Miss’s loss is about to be #2 in the CFP, giving them by far a higher loss. Also, Tulane won and will now be in the playoffs. So that is ANOTHER CFB Playoff team win. Oregon has zero.
Now, if that were to happen….ole Miss’s path to the Championship game would be James Madison at home, Texas Tech at neutral site and Indiana at a neutral site

I’m not agreeing with everything OP said, and I’m trying to look at this objectively. Looking at Oregon’s schedule, which of their games are equivalent to the “bad” SEC teams such as AR, LSU, SC, FL, State, etc.? Many of those bad teams are a few plays away from being 1-2 loss SEC teams. They’re also considered bad because they got beat by in-conference teams ranked #3, 6, 7, 8, 9, etc., all season. The talent differential on an LSU or FL compared to anyone on Oregon’s “bad” conference team opponents is massive. Sure, those SEC teams may not be great or title contenders, but to consistently beat them all season without one or two of them sneaking up on you is much more difficult than making sure you don’t slip up against a Wisconsin, Oregon State, Rutgers, etc.

Oregon lost to Indiana.
Ah, for some reason when I was typing that I thought they had lost to Penn St or Iowa or something like that.
Still, Ole Miss will have lost to the #2 team and have wins over 2 CFP teams while Oregon has none.
This is a prime example of why the chairman said idle teams could move up or down based on other factors

The conference depth argument loses its luster when you talk about teams like A&M, Ole Miss or Vandy. Conference depth is why Alabama should still be in
Oregon played a tougher schedule than Ole Miss or A&M. They played #1, @ #23, #16, and also played @ Washington

They are mostly interchangeable. I could see them flipping Ole Miss and Oregon just to avoid a rematch, even though they have said they wouldn’t do that. It was a blowout that nobody (TV) wants to see again. A&M vs Notre Dame is a rematch they would keep because it was such an exciting game.

We’ve played three teams in the playoffs. Went 2-1.
LSU fans not knowing shite about football should be the least surprising thing. Bunch of non ball knowers down in swamps.

You aren’t seriously counting Tulane as some elite win right?
They got demolished by UTSA.

You also played Oklahoma with Mateer coming off an injury in a game where he clearly didn’t look ready to play. Oklahoma would beat a Pete Golding led Ole Miss team by two touchdowns.

This is cute. You used ranking at kickoff to illustrate Oregons wins and used current rankings for Ole Miss and A&M.
LSU fans, everyone.
Ole Miss went 2-1 against playoff teams. Oregon is 0-1.

Part of this also had to do with the outcomes of the Alabama and BYU games. Both winning they would have moved up and their opponents would have moved down. With the outcome now I doubt we see any movement between 5-8 unless the committee wants to avoid a rematch 1st round.

Reading and comprehension from a fanbase that spells everything with geaux should’ve been known on my part.
Is Tulane in the playoffs or is Tulane not in the playoffs?
Did Ole Miss play Tulane and did they win?
Yes to both? That would mean Ole Miss has played three (1+1+1=3) that are in the playoffs with a winning record of 2-1.
You can twist your little panties however you want but that’s three playoff teams.
