Penn State down to Manny Diaz?

Saw he makes $9.1M/yr at Duke. What kinda dough is Penn State going to fork over. I’m surprised they don’t take an up and comer coach for a 3 year stint.

They fired a coach one year removed from the playoffs... they'd be lucky to get any college coach.

Sucks for Duke if so.
You get to the cusp of national relevance under Elko and he leaves for A&M.
Now you make the ACC championship for the first time ever and Penn State comes creeping for Diaz.
Personally I’m not impressed with Diaz from his time in Miami and think he’s still living on hand me downs from Elko and an elite portal QB, but I can see the logic from Penn State.
To me I’d be looking at elite coordinators like Schumann or even Ryan Grubb at Bama, but that might not be enough for the boosters who fired Franklin.
And to that point, would anyone trade Franklin for Diaz? I sure wouldn’t.

Franklin was Mr. Wins all games he’s supposed to win, and loses every game he’s supposed to lose. That’s why I understand their frustration.

Duke's been trying to go all in over the past few years.

I understand all that.
But if you don’t have assurances someone better is coming and a solid plan for getting them why did you fire him for all that money week 4 or whatever?
All this tells me is that they should’ve canned the AD along with Franklin for being grossly incompetent.
There is zero chance Penn State wins more games over the next two years than they would’ve under Franklin after they just blew through an entire recruiting season and are about to be picked clean in the portal.
Whoever they hire is basically looking at a college expansion program that simultaneously expects to compete with and beat Oregon and Ohio State. Good luck with the roster you’re about to have.

Georgia Tech and Vandy are the two nerds that figured it out. Duke is right there with them, but they can probably rebound and keep winning losing a Diaz than Penn State can win the Big 10 with a Diaz.
I know Diaz failed at tu as a DC, then I don’t remember how well he did at Miami. He seemed to have no pressure at Duke.

Feels like Duke's on a 10 year plan. The boosters actually DO have an appreciation for athletics bc of the Basketball team.

I think duke is ranked below Tulane and north Texas so those teams would go, which is an even bigger FU to college football
