Golesh Is Better For Auburn Than Sumrall

I got to thinking a lot about The Rolling Stones song a lot lately. We can’t always get what we want but in the end, we got what we need!
We needed a hard arse, dynamic offensive coach with a good plan of structure and accountability.
I believe in my heart of hearts after hearing Sumrall speak that him speaking with Lane so much poisoned his passion for the Auburn job. We got a guy that WANTS to be here and is excited for the challenge.
I had a feeling that Cohen would go for a very intelligent coach this time and not a doofus. I really feel that Freeze wasn’t his choice but was the choice of the GOBN. So good job John.
I haven’t been this pumped for a coaching hire in a very long time.
WDE!!!!

I came away with the impression that he was joking about that.
He might be the best coach out there, but I had not seen Sumrall speak before recently and he seems like a strange one. But, a lot of great coaches seem strange.

Time will tell this story per usual.

I wonder if Golesh was part of the GOBN choice or not, we know Freeze had it easy, but we definitely are not sure for Golesh

Absolutely
Not saying Golesh is a better coach than Sumrall at this moment but I feel he is a better coach for AUBURN and what we need at this moment in time.
He and Durkin have the potential to make one hell of a Dream Team.
Time will tell.
WDE, let’s ROCK!!!

Golesh + Durkin is a much better choice than Sumerall and whoever he would've brought in. We now have excellent minds on OFFENSE AND DEFENSE.
After just a few days on the job, it's hard to imagine Sumerall as being more focused and hardworking than the guy we got. Not saying Sumerall isn't a good coach and hard working, Golesh has just set the bar pretty high! I am extremely impressed.

I think the PTB are just tired of losing. They’ll give Golesh what he needs to succeed. We’ll find out come portal time. If they’re behind him, Golesh will rack up.

Don’t get me wrong, after some of the info others have brought about Golesh and the fact he retained Durkin, I am happier than expected.
Just the improvement our offense had scoring getting rid of freeze should have won us more games. Golesh offense should help more, even if it may put more pressure on the defense by design.
I finally watched the Golesh presser and liked it ok. I am hoping he is a wizard in the portal. It is not feasible to think he could salvage a high ranking class this go around. I’m highly intrigued by him though and think because he is young he will be a relentless worker to make Auburn relevant again.
I will always support but I am tempering my projections this go around. lol

That national signing day video Florida made Sumrall shoot had to make him cringe.
I still think he is a good coach, just like Golesh, but as both schools have learned, fit matters.

Obviously things can change but I'm confident that TPTB are supportive of team Golesh / Durkin.

Golesh talked about how he sat down with the players, he said that all of the players say they love Auburn, and that he's just going to be genuine and authentic and hasn't thought about how they feel about him just yet.
Him talking about running the football, "The foundation we do offensively, I think what shows up on sportscenter is the explosive passes, but those only show up if you can run the football" and we said together AMEN

I was for getting Sumrall when he was rumored. I thought a defensive HC would be good for Auburn, with the last 3 HC's being offensive coaches that failed with their offense.
But looking at stats for the 2025 Season, USF and Tulane weren't that far apart on Defense. 22.8 Points/Game Tulane. 23.3 Points/Game USF.
Offense: 28.7 Points/Game Tulane. 43 Points/Game USF.
I like the way Golesh has approached this job, and it's hard not to root for him. I do hope Sumrall does well at Florida too. I'd be nice if Auburn and Florida would start beating UGA.

There’s little doubt this is true.
We also need a leader that can meet an immediate need for o-linemen, tight ends, and a quarterback that can run his new system …. and the quicker he does that, the more successful Auburn will be.

I don't know much about either coach other than what i have read recently on these boards. However, after watching bits of Sumrall's press conferences, all I can think about is how he resembles a young Ed Ogeron. No doubt that guy is going to destroy some locker room furniture in the near future.

I can certainly see where you are coming from!
Both Sumrall and Eddie O definitely have a screw or 2 loose (a la Muschamp) but I love all 3… LOL

honestly, i like Sumrall, and i think he’ll be fine at UF if they’re patient with him
but i preferred Golesh all along, just something about him that strikes me as the genuine article
i was completely surprised when allin posted that we’d hired him

This is where I am at and I was down on Auburn way more than ever before. The info I have gathered since Sunday has me more positive about the future than any coach outside the top few P4 coaches could have me.
I really like he is young and will have all in energy. I think we know enough about his offense to finally feel good about Auburn scoring points again next year. One thing is for sure, if he cant get our offense together and start winning some games I will be able to accept mediocrity. That's where I'm at today. Either get better and make football enjoyable again, or give me a reason to give up and invest my Saturdays in other activities

After seeing Gainesville put out some God awful videos of Jon Sumrall I’d say yes we got the better fit. The comments made by Golesh compared to the ones made by Sumrall are night & day different. Sumrall thinks he’s fricking NS walking through the GD door down there
