Why did Ole Miss try so hard to keep Lane?

Since his departure, we've learned he was a shitbag who was drunk and having sex in a public bathroom, in just his first year there.
Then, he lied about having a dog, amongst other things (drugs, sex, and rock and roll).
To top it off, we're now learning that Lane was just chilling most of the year and Pete Golding was actually doing all of the recruiting and holding the team together.
The players allegedly hate him.
Ole Miss is better off now, and most are glad he's gone.
Why were they desperately trying to get him to sign a $13mil per year extension a week ago?
Then, he lied about having a dog, amongst other things (drugs, sex, and rock and roll).

Sounds like a perfect fit for LSU....for a year then off to the NFL

I can’t speak for Ole Miss, but the character issues and his narcissistic personality disorder are why Lane wasn’t even considered by Alabama. Byrne has blackballed Kiffin. The way he handled this latest job change did nothing to change that.

Because they thought he liked it at Ole Miss and was happy there and had matured and Ole Miss was winning. Now that everything he said/did about being satisfied with Ole Miss is shown to be fake and a way to improve his image and he's now lied about multiple things the past few days to paint Ole Miss in a bad light when Ole Miss tried to do everything he wanted the past 6 years, Ole Miss has nothing for him now. Pretty simple.
Now the whole world gets to watch LSU fall for it. Enjoy your wins that come from it and eventual downfall.

Ole Miss people, generally speaking, are depraved individuals, although there a few decent humans among them, although few in number. Think about the flood of stuff they released when he was no longer their coach. The so called “Kiffstein Files” and posts, the pills/booze and subsequent rehab they immediately alleged, the players comments after he left…like less than 36 hours after his departure, and the fact that he had a fake pet….i mean, his image was completely fabricated by the ole miss media dept and was one of the most diabolical and disgusting smoke and mirror shows you will see. This isn’t about Kiffin, it’s about the cover-up of his behavior in Oxford. It’s pretty sick that they worshipped him, loved his smugness and tomfoolery and boorish behavior one day, then it gets flipped on them for lane doing what he’s always done, then, they get their feelings hurt when they are in the receiving end.
Shame on me for believing in a dog that could tweet. Why did ole miss lie to us and why didn’t somebody stop this from happening?
