How do Aggies make the claim that they are big brother to Texas?

Not a fan of either team but moved to Houston last year. I have no dog in this fight, but this is hard for me to understand how there is argument there after I googled the record in head to head match up, then you look at modern era national championships, etc.

Also....this post is bigger than this year. Don't get in the comments and say "we are in playoffs and TU isn't."

That's weak and they could say same about you last year. I want to know if there's something I missing when I hear Aggie coworkers make this claim to Longhorn coworkers

A&M is the oldest flagship university in Texas
In fact, A&M was educating students while Texas University was still open cow pasture

A&M is the largest flagship university in Texas

A) I think it’s a stupid and played out meme. It grates on me whenever either side uses it.

B) A&M’s claim is mostly based on age and size. Texas’ is mostly based on head-to-head record and more hardware.

Texas A&M had also won four championships in college football before the Longhorns won their very first

Honestly, I think it's mostly caused by the way Texas University brands itself as THE university for the whole damn state. I was at the game Friday, and the constant and nonstop messaging (that they are the university for the whole damn state) was intentional and nauseating.

This is 100% inaccurate. A&M was a college, not offering advanced degrees. A&M didn't become a university until the 1960s.

The people of Texas knew it needed a top tier university to fullfil its destiny.

While A&M exitsed as a college, Article 7 Section 10 of the Texas Constitution titled 'Establishment of University of Texas' said, "The Legislature shall as soon as practicable establish, organize and provide for the maintenance, support and direction of a University of the first class, to be located by a vote of the people of this State, and styled, "The University of Texas.""

Texas is known to be academically superior to A&M in every way. The website Parchment, which tracks these things, shows that over 2/3 of applicants accepted to both schools choose Texas.

Now, I don't psychologically beat myself up because schools like Harvard and Princeton are academically superior to Texas. It is a sore spot for A&M, because not only is Texas academically superior to A&M, but we dominate them in every relevant sport and are in a better location.

University of Texas is the Flagship for the entire State of Texas
Its symbolic but even the UT Stadium is dedicated toward all Texans, and all schools in Texas

Just to clarify... when you say "Aggies"... are you referring to the 2 or 3 on this board that do it to irritate Texas fans or do you mean all Aggies?

You seem a bit confused.

No.

Texas A&M claimed multiple titles, decades after the seasons occured and the legit titles were actually awarded, becase of retroactive computer rankings.

Texas A&M has one legit title, and that was before the Nazis invaded France.

Texas Longhorns first played football in 1893.

Texas A&M Aggies first fielded a football team in 1894

As for the argument? it's stupid. Both sides say it. It's just a way to try and get under the other side's skin.

A lot of people know very little about Texas A&M, that was even more true before Johnny Football.

Everyone knows who the Texas Longhorns are.

That’s just a misrepresentation

To be fair, two of your titles are considered illegitimate by many

Texas A&M has four national championships and the Longhorns have two that are recognized

What an embarassing post.

The WSJ rankings are universally accepted as a joke. Do you reallly think Babson College is superior to MIT, Harvard and Yale?

The only rankings the universities themselves take seriously are the US News rankings. When US news made UCLA the top public university in the country, they made banners about it and put them all over campus. UF did the same when US News made them a top 5 public university. The head of Vanderbilt published a public letter when US News altered its format and Vandy dropped in its ranking. Columbia got busted, by one of its own professors, lying about data to game the US News rankings.

No one does things like this for the WSJ rankings, because no one takes them seriously within the education field.
