Alabama's a bubble-team that needs to win the SEC CG to guarantee a playoff spot

First and foremost they're not that good

They eeked out four wins (Auburn, Missouri, Georgia and South Carolina) by a combined 20 points

After sitting at #10 in the playoff committee rankings before a lackluster performance against Auburn could narrow the gap or drop them behind Miami, Vanderbilt, Texas or BYU

The committee is aware of the possibility of the ACC being shutout with a Duke win over Virginia in the ACC CG, so boosting Miami above Alabama this week would greatly enhance the odds of the ACC at least getting one team in the playoff

If BYU beats Texas Tech, odds are Alabama is the odd team out, regardless if they stay at #10 this week

A multiple score loss against Georgia would likely
eliminate Alabama

This notion that if a team makes their respective conference game while being highly ranked gets a free pass is ridiculous

Perhaps if you're a one-loss team and ranked in the top 5 or 6, I'd agree with that logic but not for a bubble-team heading into their respective conference championship games

Would love to see the SEC get 5 teams in the playoff and have great respect for Alabama but don't be shocked if they're left out

Hopefully I'm wrong but I'd encourage all Alabama & SEC fans to put your cups on

Two big “ifs” there. Could it happen? Sure. Just don’t see a likely scenario where Bama’s out.

Alabama is out of the playoffs if BYU beats Texas Tech and Georgia beats Alabama. I don't know why people don't realize that. The committee already made the decision to rank ND ahead of Alabama. Regardless of whether that was the correct decision in the first place, there would be no reason to reverse that decision based on Alabama barely beating Auburn last week and then losing to Georgia.

This is a bad year to be a bubble team, with how there were hardly any upsets after we quickly figured out how overrated a lot of top 10 preseason teams were (Clemson, PSU, LSU, and to some extent Texas).

It's funny that one year it's used to keep Alabama out, and then the next year the standard is different to keep Alabama out again. The more shite changes, the more it stays the same.

Personally don't really give a shite, you're either a national championship quality team or you aren't. The fact we're even talking about 2 and 3 loss teams in this just highlights how stupid the entire format is.

But watching the standards change to keep Alabama out while people at the same time constantly complain that Alabama gets all the breaks is kinda funny.

I agree that if we lose by 2 or more scores then we definitely don't get in.

If we lose a close one, then I'd give us a 50/50 chance.

Its pretty insane that we are #1 in the SEC, yet an SECCG loss might knock us out, but the fact is is there are multiple 2 loss teams on the bubble this year, and we really, really shouldn't have lost to a bad FSU team to start the year off. That is why we are in this position.

BYU beating Texas Tech as a roughly 11.5 point underdog is a fairly big if, but t plenty of upsets like that have occurred before.

Georgia beating Alabama as 1.5 point favorites is actually what's (slightly) predicted to happen.

Yeah, in all likelihood, one of these two games (especially the former) will go Alabama's way. But I'm not really sure why Alabama is -3300 playoff odds on Fanduel.

If Alabama loses to Georgia and Texas Tech loses to BYU, then Alabama is out of the playoffs even if the committee assigns zero penalty to Alabama losing the SEC title game.

Bama won’t be out, just follow the money.

If conference championship games start eliminating teams from the playoff, guess which games won’t last much longer because no one wants to play in them?

Conference championship week makes A LOT of money.

True statement

I just don't trust the committee and could see some manipulation to boost Miami to protect the ACC

They will use this weekend's ACC/SEC results (Louisville and Clemson smoking Kentucky and South Carolina) as justification along with Alabama's loss to the 12th ranked team in the ACC

The good news for Alabama is they control their own destiny

Win on Saturday and they're in!

Again, this is all just points out to how fricking stupid the entire system is.

Everyone associated with this crap should be fired immediately.

But why shouldn't Texas Tech drop below Alabama if they lose?

For the last time, even if the committee assigns zero penalty to Alabama for losing the CCG, Alabama would miss the playoffs if they lose to UGA and BYU beats Texas Tech. Alabama is currently the last team in, and BYU would take their playoff spot. I mean, seriously, what's the committee going to do? Move Alabama ahead of Notre Dame as some kind of reward for Alabama losing to Georgia?

Texas is sitting behind Alabama because the majority of their games have been lack luster. Texas is not even considered a bubble team just a team realizing they are not one of the best teams in the country or conference but also realizing they are at best 3rd in the state of Texas.

In the end Alabama beat UGA this weekend we are in. If we do not no issue and Miami would slide in

How did Texas fare against Georgia? Are you seriously using that win against us?

I can’t get my head around how ND can possibly be ranked ahead of Bama!

Combined record of teams Bama beat: 63-57

Record of teams played: 78-66

Now do Notre Dame:

Combined record of teams they beat: 54-65

Total record of all opponents: 73-70

They played 2 teams with 10 wins, lost both games. They beat 1 ranked team.. USC

Meanwhile Bama has beaten 2 teams with 10 wins or more, beat 4 ranked teams.

Not to mention Alabama is the regular season Champion of the SEC.. the best conference in football.

The committee can’t justify having ND above Bama, unless they want to talk about rush yards!
