If there was another Saban out there we’d have hired him if we could. The closest two out there are Ryan Day and Kirby Smart.

You say this as if the two situations were exactly the same. LSU is not the first, nor will it be the last to hire a coach prior to post-season. This is actually the most common time.
Saban retired after post-season. That was after early signing day and transfer portal. This is rare in the sport.
The moral high ground, you think you have, is a mirage.

From an LSU fan’s perspective, this has been the perfect reaction to LSU hiring a football coach. Especially the reaction from Alabama and UGA fans.
