Would you leave a good job for slightly better?

I do kind of want to know why he's going to LSU.
If it is better, I can't imagine this offer is better by much as far as a coaching job is concerned.
I'm hearing he was going to be offered better money to stay at Ole Miss.
Whether anyone cares to admit it or not, Oxford is a better place to raise your family than in Baton Rouge.
Louisiana does have better recruits no doubt but that's becoming less and less of an advantage as these kids could go elsewhere for more money in this day and age.
He has Ole Miss as a playoff contender now two years in a row.
Both places otherwise being somewhat equal, this as a head coach is where you want to be. Was he expecting a major drop-off next year?
Do you leave a place where it just might be barely better?
I had a job offer earlier in the year that offered a little more money and little more agency/autonomy but it would have only been about 10% better. Benefits were close to the same. Would have gotten a better title as well but ultimately decided to not take it as it wasn't a true step up.
I feel happy about that choice now. But I guess in the realm of being a football HC, that's enough of a difference to get you to move. Though I don't feel that a move to LSU is a 10% better job just because of it being LSU. Especially after the latest Kelly debacle. Lane does have a penchant for drama though.
It could be he hated being in Miss. and thinks BR is greener pastures but I would think he should know better.
I know this will be good for LSU.
It will energize the fanbase 1 hundo.
It will make things more fun around here as well.
It benefits a lot of people but does it benefit Lane? I guess only he could answer that. It's his choice and everyone at Ole Miss (mostly their media) should respect that.
I would like to know more if you know about any of these aspects. I don't know all the details but I am eager to see what comes next for LSU.

If you’re talking about environments, Oxford is way better town than Baton Rouge. Baton Rouge is a shite hole.

As far as the location goes, nobody doubts that.

Mississippi has some state laws when it comes to coaches contracts. That's why there are a bunch of clauses that gave him 1 year extensions at the end of each season. It really limited the buyout.
I think his buyout was only around 36.
Now at LSU he is guaranteed closer to 100 million no matter what happens

LSU and OM are not equal. Saban himself said it.
Recruiting at LSU and OM is fundamentally different since Lane had to rely on the portal at OM which is dangerous. At LSU he doesn’t have to do that. Again, those are Saban’s words, not mine.

It’s a much job than Ole Miss.
And the vacancy had to be filled now because of the stupid calendar. If he wanted this once in a lifetime opportunity he had to take it now.

"Slightly better" is the difference between playoffs and a national championship.

I have.
I wouldn’t again.
I wouldn’t again.

When LSU is winning, there is no place in college football that will feed a coaches ego like Death Valley on a Saturday night.

Now that is understandable. Was not aware of that. Thanks

It would be hard to turn down an 8 million dollar a year raise. That's enough money you can really secluded yourself in Baton Rouge and not have to deal with the shitty parts of town. Only hiccup I would see is what happened to orgeron and Kelly. Orgeron got fired a year after winning a title and they were singing Kelly's praises up until game 3 of this season. Things happen fast as hell in Baton Rouge and they will drag you to court to skimp on the contractual obligation they signed. It could be a great move or it could be shirt lived. That 2-3 game a year loss windows and being a perennial top 15 team isn't the buffer windows it was at ole miss.

Private sector employees leave on avg after 3 years. Im currently at 4.5 and it is the longest job of my career (in my 40s). I leave and improve my position. Do what is best for you, owe loyalty to you and your family. That is all, no one else.

Very good point. See, this is why I asked you guys. I know you are far more knowledgeable about this than I am

One of two reasons would have influenced me as HC.
The first, they made him a Godfather offer. "We're going to pay you all the money in the world! There won't be a children's hospital in this whole dang state with any money by the time we get done shoveling out the cash!" Okay. Gobs and gobs of money is hard to turn down. Lane was making a small fortune at Ole Miss but there are always larger fortunes to be made.
The second, Kiffin and the Ole Miss athletic department not so cordially despise one another. Arkansas had multiple great coaches flee to other schools just so they wouldn't have to deal with Frank Broyles. Maybe the Ole Miss AD and Kiffy hate one another.
Personally... I'd have stayed. Being loyal as a HC doesn't work out often in the modern era. Look at Franklin being shown the door after taking Pedo State to the playoffs last year. But... Ole Miss seemed perfectly happy with Lane. I think the alumni are loyal enough that Kiffin could have had a couple of bad years in a row before they dropped the axe.
The clock is already ticking at LSU. Deliver results, big results, and do it quick. Maybe a one year grace period. Maybe not.

But how so specifically?
Lane Kiffin chose LSU, after fixing his marriage and with the consent of his family.
Why question it beyond that?
From a job standpoint, Lane had said not one player on their offense was from Mississippi. Which is crazy. Imagine an LSU team with zero home state players.
You cannot. LSU recruiting is just too good.

How so? The day to day at LSU? or do you mean something specific? Recruiting is but what else?
Enthusiasm for the team? If so, I think Ole Miss fans are as enthusiastic about their team as LSU fans. I don't buy the energy aspect unless you're at a place where football is an after thought. That's not the case at either of these schools.
What else?
