Remember when CFP committee screwed FSU because they lost their starting QB?

What does the committee do to a team that loses their head coach right before the playoffs?
Posted on 11/20/25 at 1:32 pm to Lgrnwd
Probably will affect it, but probably not as much as the quarterback

Yeah. When it was a 4 team playoff
Dipshits on here think if we lose the committee will put a 10-2 Oklahoma team that we beat in Norman in over us

They wouldn’t go that far. But a 2 loss Alabama or Notre Dame definitely would

Notre Dame is already in so that’s not even in question.
Alabama would be close but they would have a loss to 3 win FSU and an home loss to Oklahoma.
We would have a loss to bowl eligible Mississippi State and Georgia both on the road.

This is a dumbass narrative I have been seeing on social media:
1. There is a huge difference between a coach and a star QB.
2. Even if the coach left, odds are he'd coach through the year
3. There is a HUGE difference between a 4 and 12 team playoff.

True, but we would also have wins over multiple currently ranked teams, while Ole Miss would have one.
I'm not sure how things pan out if the committee is weighing the differences between Alabama's record and Ole Miss'... for our sake, I hope we win the SECCG and make it an irrelevant point.

Notre Dame is already in
Precisely Bama and Big 12 team not named Tech

Good point... Alabama winning the SECCG probably gets the most SEC teams in, and if someone upsets Tech in the Big 12 CG and that bumps Notre Dame, then I guess I'll be shouting Go Raiders that day.

FSU, despite the 4 game losing streak where they looked horrible, is somehow 5-5. IF they end up 7-5 to close the year, then Bama's loss to them looks slightly better. First game of the year, on the road etc.

Never in a million years would they do that....thats one of the best wins of anyone this year.

Yeah it's not obvious, and I doubt the committee even realizes it. And with ND not having his games they can't even create any shenanigans. The only option they would have, would be dropping 11-2 Tech below 10-2 ND . Which would be a very hard sell.

Have you not paid attention to the history of college football? Tostito Tech better win out because a brand name like Notre Dame absolutely could bump them out. I don’t like it and most of CFB don’t like it, but the committee does shite to satisfy the big names all the damn time

We have more wins against current Playoff teams than Bama

A lot of folk really dont realize that the FSU thing wasn't in the 12 team format.....it was in the 4.

I think it the problem with the comparison is that it’s a lot easier to believe that a team w/o their QB is going to be at a disadvantage especially when they’ve played a couple of games and their offense looked terrible, whereas with the coach, there could be concern but it’s the same team going out on the field and the team could easily still play just as well.
If Charlie Weiss is gone too, then we might get a bye!!

Nothing unless he leaves and OM repeatedly looks horrendous against bad competition proving to the entire nation that they arent playoff caliber anymore.

FSU would’ve made the 12 team playoffs…
