Is LSU really that high above UF?

Understandably this is an LSU site and there is massive bias.

But can someone actually explain to me with facts, not emotions, how LSU is superior for Florida?

Outside of a stone age natty, both are about dead even on the stat sheets. (Another reason why cancelling the series is dogshit).

While I'm a Florida fan, I do appreciate LSU and their culture. But to say the coaching job there is head and shoulders above Florida's is something I legitimately cannot follow.

More Heisman winners have played for LSU recently.

LSUs admin has cared more about winning over the last 15 years. To me, that’s the biggest difference.

UF thought being “UF” was good enough to win was the pervasive attitude from Spurrier and Foley. Foleys comments about not wanting to get into an arms race was very telling.

There are arguments to be made about recruiting grounds and bad coaches winning at LSU too. LSU also has the recent track record of winning more than us over the last 10-15 years.

I don’t think it’s head and shoulders in terms of potential, but in practice it’s not hard to see why LSU is considered the better job.

I will say, if UF gets its shite together, it has as much potential as anyone. Larger student body, much larger alumni base, better academics, much better state in population size and economically.

By that logic Colorado is a better job than LSU.

lsu doesn't have to battle much in state recruiting like florida.

but, with nil, i guess that's a moot point.

This. UF got caught up in wanting to be a Top 5 public-university and neglected football like idiots.

I remember Mullen trying to sell top 5 public-uni label to recruits.
SMH

Not to mention Jeremy Foley and his crew (Disney Gators) wanting to hire yes-men from the Saban tree that didn't fit UF, instead of going after the best coaches.

I don't see the draw. It's a craphole. BR is basically a university surrounded by a slum.

I'm not sure why this has always been a dumb argument to me but it is.

Facts are that regionalism in college football has been dead since the early 2000s, well before NIL. The state of Florida has been poached for years for talent. But now recruiting is nationwide. The state lines don't mean that much anymore and less to players. Kids are drawn by the program, the money, and the coach, not the state that they represent for better or for worse.

This argument would be like saying "Don't take the Texas job because they have more than one major sports university there." Preposterous argument.

better academics

To think this has any relevance to all but a small fraction of “student”-athletes is laughable.

The majority of posters are here to simply make fun of LSU.

LSU just has to recruit it’s in state talent to be competitive. They don’t have another power program to compete against with for the talent. Historically, LSU is only second to Ohio when it comes to putting out college athletes per capa. Nil makes it harder now though to put that fence around the state up.

LSU and Florida are both great football jobs. It’s really splitting hairs to argue about which one is better.

They’re both great jobs.

Florida has to compete with two other major universities in-state for recruits, plus Georgia taking what it wants. LSU just has to keep the walls up, while raiding Houston, DFW, and Mississippi.

UF has the #8 NIL collective. LSU has #3. (Based on 2024 totals)

Louisiana has 50% higher NFL talent per capita than Florida (1 in 79k vs 1 in 120k).

To judge who genuinely cares about winning, let's examine the last HC Hires by both schools.

Florida hired a sunbelt coach.

LSU hired a ND coach with a 30 year history of success. (Personal character not withstanding)

Before you start yelping about Billy's success in the sunbelt, it was the sunbelt. The freaking sunbelt. Nothing anyone accomplished in the sunbelt should ever be indicative of any ability to succeed in real football.
The Sunbelt lololol. I would look at their middle school coaching before I looked at their sunbelt experience

I would say LSU gets a slight edge due to recent success (championships, heismans) and the notoriety of former players in the NFL.

No one said LSU is head and shoulders better than Florida. Quit being such a pussy.
