Texas is a very good run defense, best in SEC at 75 YPG, but passing defense is 12th at 235 YPG. Texas has middle of SEC in total offense at 10th. They will try to hit big pass plays all night long, it's going to be a test for Dawgs corners and safety's. Dawgs need to stay out of long 3th downs and have some success on ground, and keep TX offense off field. I don't see this game becoming a shoot out, but do see both teams in 20 to 30 point range. The one point that sticks out about TX, in last 5 games they have given up 298,210,258,382,365 passing yards. I like our chances at home, but its going to be deep 4th quarter battle.

If there's ever been a game where needed to pressure and sack the QB this is it. Manning has a strong tendency to wilt quickly under pressure and his mechanics go to crap. I pray we don't witness another game of pitch and catch because he does have the ability to get hot if given the opportunity.

Alabama would've been the game where we needed to pressure and sack the quarterback, because their quarterback actually went through progressions and threw passes further than 10 yards past the line of scrimmage.

Texas offense has settled into a chickenshit horizontal quick game offense, so open field tackling will probably be way more important than pressuring the quarterback.

This is the second time you have used “3th” in less than a week. Are you crazy or just plain stupid?

Probably a combination of both, since I waited 20 years for UGAs 1980 Championship and 40 years for the next one.

Last night I watched both Texas games from last year and it was jarring at how differnet we looked. Like it might as well have not even been UGA. I know the portal era fricks your roster over yearly but all of the guys below made at least one noteworthy play against Texas last year, and are no longer on our team this year:

beck
dom lovett
etienne
arian
mykell
jalon walker
dan jackson
chambliss
starks
80% of the OL (fairchild/wilson/ratledge/truss)
damon wilson

I mean damn. Granted...not all of beck's noteworthy plays were positive ones, ditto for some others no longer here (julian humphrey ie). But still...it was a bit surprising.

Probably a reaction to Arch wilting under pressure

The kid's not afraid to take a hit and he's a tough SOB. I don't know where this narrative is coming from. He's had shitty mechanics regardless of who is or isn't in his face.

IIRC someone on the 247 UGA board said Arch has thrown 11 TDs under pressure, the same as Gunner. I think he's the 3rd or 4th best QB we've played at best, but I'd bet the farm that Kirby & co. are taking him seriously

He is definitely the X factor. Texas' only chance in this game is for Arch to rip us a new one. The Film Guy has been ogling over Arch for the last 3 weeks. We shall see.

I don't think we will sack him all that much. To be honest, that's never been Kirby's MO. After all, even the championship years we averaged - what, 2 or so a game?

Kirby likes to squeeze the pocket and contain. Keep him from running with pressure = mistakes. At least we hope. We need to see the high safety again.

I'd love to see a game similar to last weeks game with UGA on top. But, it'll probably be a war that's not decided until very late in the game.

I'm not worried about Arch. Even if he have a good game the Dawgs have proven they can out score you. Anthony Hill Jr. and Colin Simmons are the two best players on their team. Our TE's gonna have to play on another level to keep those two from disrupting plays.

Texas has one of the best teams money can buy.
They definitely have as much talent as we are do and are better at some positions.
As such I am expecting another close game; another OT nailbiter would not surprise me.
I'm concerned that Texas will control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. I'm hoping our depth will pull us through in the 2nd half as it has in previous games.
Their defense is probably better than our defense overall so it will take innovative play calling and excellent execution to get first downs and keep their offense off the field.
Manning is developing and our secondary will be challenged to cover their talented receivers.
But I am actually more concerned that they will be able to run the ball and set up play action down field on our vulnerable secondary.
I think we will have to load the box to stop their running game and hopefully some creative blitzing can put some pressure on Manning.
We can't let him get outside where he can pick up key yards with his legs and buy time to improvise down-field.

If there is one thing i have come to expect from Georgia it is expect the unexpected.

Game plans change rapidly in a game sometimes. A team with a poor run defense can clamp down and concentrate on stopping the run and make a strong running team look bad running the ball and the same for passing.

Strengths and weaknesses can be influenced by a lot of factors...personnel, scheme, coaching styles, injuries, etc.

Manning, to me, appears to be a prototypical hot and cold QB. He can look really, really bad for a quarter or more and then suddenly hit on all of his passes and look like a Heisman candidate, then go cold once more.

He had a good game last game, and many media types claimed he was at a turning point and would be fine going forward, but only time will tell. Media wants to see him excel because that gives them a story line. Typically a kid will turn the corner in the off season, but the light bulb has been known to turn on in the middle of a season.

I tend to be pessimistic in big games, so it would not surprise me if we came out flat and got beat. Texas has a lot of motivation. Playoffs, revenge, etc. I think we could/should win, but if we do I tend to think it will be close. We will need to be successful through the air, but be able to run enough to keep their defense honest. Sounds trite, but it is what it is.
