I haven't watched it yet (will tonight), but maybe it'll explain something.

Basically a bunch of different things

(a) Line isn't great as a unit and seems discombobulated at times. They aren't getting blown up the timing just doesn't seem to be right. Guys are getting hats on guys but we either miss with a motion block or the RB is a step late or guys reach to the 2nd level too early.

(b) Backs were bad - mainly Jam. Just flat out missed 3-4 holes that should have been 5-7 yard runs with a 1 on 1 with a safety to get more, and instead he danced around early and they ended with 0-2. They aren't 3 wide yard holes, but they are gaps that good college backs have to see and immediately press. And he just isn't doing it.

(c) Hill presses the hole. At this point, seems like the best option to consistently get 2-4 yards but also wear teams down if we are going to run basic runs just to keep them honest.

He also talked about double team scheme and also talked about poor blocking by TE

Yea - which makes sense. This unit doesn't really have a punishing TE blocker like we did with Outzs last year. Some of the young guys might turn into that, but they aren't yet.

We have nailed the portal for the most part but it looks like we whiffed on our 2 in-line tight end targets who never even get snaps (Troy and WVU kids).

Exactly. I wondered if they were keeping Jam in because he’s better in pass pro, and swapping him out gives away the play, but… ugh. Jam just hasn’t been it this year for us.

Absolutely. I’ve seen him make a mistake in pass protection once that I remember. He kept with the PA fake and didn’t recognize the free rusher to chip. But he cleaned that up in the SCar game pretty nicely, and did a good job in the LSU game as well.

Yep - and frankly, Jam had a really bad miss in pass pro on Saturday night too. Hill also catches the ball out of the backfield, so you can't just assume run when he's in.

I like Jam a lot and hate it's not working out, but he just looks slow and lost out there right now. We don't have a lot of wiggle room in the run game as it is, and he is just an automatic 2 yard gain or less on almost any run he touches the ball.

Oh yeah, Hill’s got some pretty soft hands for a back, which is a blessing. He also has tree trunks for legs lol

In fairness to all the backs I think at one point we were last in the SEC in avg first contact when running the ball.

Some of these games we’ve been -1 or worse where the backs are barely getting the ball before they’re hit. It’s insane.

I didn’t play OL and we didn’t run a zone scheme so I can’t say exactly what the issue is because I don’t know the assignments but holy crap we look slow footed and indecisive out there.

Our blocking is generally poor. We need to get an OL coach with a nasty attitude.

the Blocking scheme, the actually attempt at blocking, and vision all equally suck. The one thing though is it is consistent. Consistently bad.

Just watched it, and he addressed my comment about pass pro with Hill and he’s right. If we’re about 80 for pass anyway, who cares if the play is given away by Hill being in.

That was tough to watch tbh. 75 is just bad.

Been saying Kapilovic needs to go for over a year. It drives me crazy that I see other teams across the country with good offensive lines and I’m not talking Oregon or Ohio State.

USC has a good offensive line. Utah has a gone one. Georgia Tech has a good one. Why the hell can’t we get a good O line coach?

Yes, I know we can’t replace Kapilovic right now but for God’s sake, he needs to be canned ASAP once season is over.

That was depressing to watch. I knew our blocking was bad, but not that poor. Is this too late to fix? Also, how is Jam playing over #4?

I get the same reaction from folks when I mention Lawson. He’s just objectively not good. Injury or not, he shouldn’t be starting if he can’t press/shoot gaps and takes awful angles.

As the defensive signal caller, I get. But maybe he should pass that off.

Yeah, they’re either not good (75) especially or just not coached. These errors look like first day of camp not mid November. Holy crap that’s depressing

Yeah for me Lawson is only consistently a positive when he's on the line outside as a pass rusher.

Outside of that it's inconsistent play due to late reaction (seemingly)?

I honestly feel like Jam is a little scared after being concussed.

He seems to love catching the ball and running out of bounds from the backfield.

You’re being sensitive if that’s your takeaway. 90 percent of posters admit he’s not good and/or agree with your point.
