Kiffin knows LSU will always be a contender.
So why hasn’t LSU been a contender since 2019, and if one thinks 2022 was a contender (10-4) why was Kelly fired?

We can be a contender with the right coach steering the ship.
*IF* we had remotely decent coaching on defense in 2022, we could have done much better. And that's not me being a revisionist historian.
We have the talent every single year, but we need the right people in charge.

Kelly made arse coaching hires on the offensive side. IE oline and the revolving door on defense but he finally corrected that side of the ball.

They have the best place to play in all of sports.
Their state has the best players and thus, they will always recruit the best players. No one wants to leave La. right

The whole college football world is scared to death of us getting a legit coach and you know it. You and Ole Miss fans are over there praying that Kiffin doesn’t come because you know what he could accomplish here. Stop trying to keep your heads in the sand and make yourselves feel better. O flopped after the national championship and BK was never the right fit. If we do find the right fit. Everybody is gonna be in real trouble and you know it. Keep praying that doesn’t happen.

It can but it's not the only thing like you guys seem to think. We also had some administrative issues imo. The old guard were not prepared to move into a newer era. And honestly still weren't when Saban first came on board.

Better? Probably.
But to be clear, in 2022 LSU didn’t have anything close to a competitive defensive roster. You could’ve had Saban and Kirby coaching up that side of the ball and it was gonna give up tons of points because you were below average at every position group and borderline FCS level at one in particular.
Baker has done a great job outside of dealing with mobile QBs, but in order to get you back to a top 15 defense it took multiple years of portal moves and new recruiting classes to do it.
If your 2022 defense had all been open in the portal, there were probably only 1-2 guys who would’ve competed for a two deep spot at Bama or UGA, that’s how far yall had fallen from a talent standpoint.
Which given the instate talent in LA is incomprehensible and speaks to the chaos that was the post championship Orgeron period at LSU.

It's the same reason Nick Saban looked at us in 1999 after the worst decade in our football history and decided to come here. He called us a sleeping giant. Was he wrong?
Lesser coaches have succeeded here. The word on Kelly was that he was mailing it in. No staff meetings, no recruiting visits, on the beach during bye weeks, players never spoke with him until he needed something from them. Its a good job but if the coach is lazy the results will be as well.
