…and it blowing up so badly, give Cohen the political capital to make this hire on his own? Because I trust him a whole hell of a lot more to conduct a professional search and make the right hire than I do Rane & Co.

Do we know that it is a fact? I’m not saying it isn’t but a lot of folks post it as fact but message boards are the only place I have seen that.

Considering he hired Freeze and is the beta of his household does not inspire much confidence that he will get this right.

The good news is that Rane and maybe Sanford are the only real big money power brokers left on the board.
The thing is that the big athletic donors also are the big academic donors, hence the names like Harbert and Rane on buildings around campus. I am sure they could get the attention of the president and BOT by threatening to withhold some of the donations on the academic side.

I think Cohen is very correct in saying he is the search committee. I don't think we have PTB or BOT going to him and saying, hey, we need to go get this guy or that guy.
But, once Cohen finds someone and is ready to ink the deal, it is not going to get done without a final red stamp from the PTB/BOT. I think that is where people get confused. And it is why Cohen can say what he said and be totally truthful.
