Could someone explain the Durkin hate? HIs defense is one of three that has not given up more than 24 points a game.

What hate? I'm on the combined pay boards (ITAT, AUC, On3/Bunker)
I'd say Durkin is probably the most popular candidate on all of them

Plain and simple he was bad at Maryland and it's a hire that makes cohen look like he cant really ball with everybody else.
His major sports hires would be a big arse coin flip that nobody wanted bc he couldn't close with real candidates, a nepot promotion, and an interim promotion.
That doesnt give me warm and fuzzies for our athletic department.

He definitely makes the most sense to me
And even though he is a defensive guy, he is smart enough to see why the offense failed under Hugh
We will look like a totally different team against Vandy and will beat them quite easily

I don’t know…maybe it could be that he was a disaster as a HC and would be another hire with a scandal in his past that Auburn would have to hire another PR firm to polish the turd? Just my guess.

Wouldn't you kinda want to let things play out?

One plus for Durkin, he doesn't have a weekly 1:30 tee time at the local golf course on sunday

Let what play out? The durkin hire? Definitely not if it means we dont go out and vet about 20 other coaches first.
If he's hired I'll support but he worries me. He was outcoached in the fourth quarter several times in the past few years and he was bad at Maryland. Kinda feels like Chizik a lil bit to me.

I'm telling you all now, if he puts a product on the field these last few games that is night and day from earlier, he may get the job
Posted on 11/3/25 at 1:01 pm to HailToTheChiz
Yep and I hope he does

30 minutes and we'll get to hear him and Cohen speak

He might. And it would still feel weak as hell.

Good DC doesn’t mean good HC. There was some significant stuff going on with his staff at Maryland. We don’t need that kind of crap. I like him as a DC.

The only way he gets hired if he beats Vandy and beats or competes with Bama to the wire. Also, the only way he gets hired if six other coaches turns down Auburn, which is possible.

It's a shame they didn't do this last Sunday. Auburn might have beaten Kentucky.

I have nothing against Durkin. With a good OC, he can help right the ship.

He was bad at Maryland, and did have a scandal on his watch. OTOH, he already has half the team bought-in (in pretty tough times no less...and they never gave up). If he can get some kind of a spark like that from the offense, he's definitely worth serious consideration.
This is a high-risk game no matter who you hire.

If that's who they decide on after an optically good coaching search I'll support. I think he can win next year with an oc, o line coach, and qb. Im worried about him sustaining after multiple years of it being solely his program.

Same. If a handful of the names being discussed are actually considered and some interviewed and it seems like it's a pretty open process (ie, not window dressing for a decision already made) - I'm good with however it comes out I think.
In theory I don't mind Cohen narrowing in on a guy and going and getting him, but to me that doesn't really work for someone at the coordinator level or the G5 HC level as much.
