But there is a legitimate chance that 6 SEC teams make the College Football Playoff.
All that has to happen is for the ACC and Big 12 to remain one-bid leagues, for Notre Dame to lose to Pitt, and for the Big 10 to only get Oregon, Ohio State, and Indiana into the playoffs.
Alabama, Georgia, A&M, and Ole Miss are virtual locks.
Oklahoma and Texas can each afford only one more loss, assuming the scenario I laid out above holds. I think Vandy and Mizzou need to win out, given that they don't have the brand names that OU and Texas do. Unfortunate, but alas. They can still get in even if that doesn't happen, as long as they win out.

A 3-loss Texas is not playoff bound.

The Longhorn brand is massive and like it or not the CFP is a business...they want to make money. In this scenario, who would get in over Texas?

No one is a virtual lock yet...close for Texas A&M and Ole Miss, but not a lock yet
Alabama vs Oklahoma and Texas vs Georgia are practically playoff games
Vandy has peaked...

A&M is not a lock. Not yet. Must beat Mizzou first assure their spot in the SECCG. THEN they are a lock

Who would get in over a 3 loss Texas? 2-loss Miami, Michigan, USC for starters

If the acc, big 12 and G5 only get one each and notre dame is knocked out, there would be 9 bids that have to go to the sec and big 10, and the big 10 only has 3 clear playoff teams right now. The reamining 6 spots would all have to go to the sec.

ACC and Big XII will get two in though. ND isn’t a guarantee yet.

If Georgia beats Texas and A&M loses to Texas, then Georgia would go given the tie-breaker (record versus common opponents).

I remember when, I remember when I lost my mind…
And it sounded a lot like that

The SEC teams also have losses incoming.
Texas for example has to play Georgia and A&M.
A&M and Mizzou still have to play.
Tennessee and Vandy still have to play.
Alabama and Oklahoma still have to play.
Ole Miss still has to beat Florida. They'll be favored but it's not a free win.
Only 1 or 2 teams at max get easy schedules in the SEC.

If Texas runs the gauntlet on Georgia, Arkansas, and A&M - then Texas will be the highest ranked 2-loss team the world has ever seen.
But it won't happen except in my sleep tonight.

The Big12 is gonna get at least 2 spots, IMO. And the BIg10 might get as many as 4 spots. ACC gets one and a G6 team gets 1, that leaves 4 or stretching it 5 spots for SEC teams.

Michigan and USC are both losing another game (USC/Oregon) and (Michigan/Ohio State). Miami could also lose another game, @ Pittsburg is going to be a really tough game for them, Pitt is playing extremely well.
Texas would have 3 top 10 wins, the rest of that group has 3 ranked wins combined (#10, #21, & #24).
