Doug Schoen.

That’s a HUGE positive imo.

Roll the dice. Hire Sumrall. Let him hire his staff. He is a young program building type head coach.

Is sumrall legit? I know. I know nothing about his coaching style. Just can’t handle anymore gimmick coaches.

He seems the best available for Auburn and about 3-6 other big schools. I’m not wondering if we want him I’m worried he won’t want us.

We have become the far ugly guy at the dance.

Tulane’s OC is Joe Cradock who was Chad Morris’ OC at SMU and Arkansas.

Would we want him as our OC? He’d probably come along with Sumrall.

I’m all for Sumrall just because he is a defensive minded coach. The HUNH offense is dead and Saban and fat Bret killed it.

I don't want anyone that has been within 15 feet of Chad Morris within the last 10 years. That son of a bitch is cursed.

I'm not buying that Auburn is a toxic place to be hired to, and frankly I'm tired of the sentiment. You come in, you produce results, and win and you have a fantastic environment. Whatever Durkin has been doing on defense is all of that, which is why he could be the perfect candidate, don't bring up his Maryland results, honestly how do you recruit for Maryland anyway? Sumrall has potential as well, but he's another that hasn't coached in the bigs yet.

Auburn, yes Auburn, may have the most stable administrative alignment among the open SEC jobs right now. LINK

Florida - Disney Gators have been making a mess of things since they blocked Spurrier from coming back 20+ years ago.

LSU - No AD, No President, crazy state governor calling the shots in a very public way.

PSU - CFP last year, fired their coach this year. Unrealistic expectations much?

And you think Auburn needs beer goggles to win?

Nope, nope, nope. We've been burned here before. It is important. Look at all the up and coming smaller conference coaches that are up for jobs. You know why, because they are having great success at places people would say, How do you recruit for Tulane/USF/UTSA anyway? And, I've seen plenty of coordinators move up and be great. I've just as many or more that were great coordinators and sucked arse as a head coach. It is a bigger job.

Can someone tell me why he is one of the most desirable coaches. Yeah, he is winning at Tulane, but they were pretty good and maybe even better before he got there, IIRC. Not trying to bring him down, I just wanna know how to get as excited as everyone else about this guy. Someone tell me what I missed

Because in the transfer portal era a team like Tulane is basically going to completely flip over the roster once the HC leaves. All of Fritz's players were gone from Tulane, so the fact that they were good before he got there doesn't mean as much as you think it does. Fritz built a really good program which means that their players are prime targets for bigger schools to come and poach.

If you want a good example to show that sustaining success at a program like that is hardly a given: look at Louisiana post Billy Napier. Why didn't they keep winning? Michael Desormeaux inherited a winning program, but his tenure has been bad.

The other part to Sumrall is that he inherited a complete mess at Troy and immediately won 11+ games in back to back seasons there, so there is more track record to him than just Tulane.

Take a closer look at that mess. The same AD that gave Jimbo the huge money & firing is the same one that did that for Kelly.

He made the state liable. The Gov had to step in because they were needing public money to back it. That Gov is their former Attorney General. He is a no nonsense person & worked to get that troll AD out of there. Most of these ADs don't know how to negotiate. (See Gus's Contract extension) They melt & listen to the agent. We should have said go to Arky even at the time. They wouldn't have paid the buy out to get him. Also that AD is responsible for the 2 highest payouts in CFB History

Technically yes, but no state in the history of mankind has had to pay a buy out. Very disingenuous of the the loudmouth.

Also, the ex LSU Ad did not cause the absurd buy out with Jimbo.
Ross Bjork made an ill-advised extension.
At Woodward's exit the buy out was $30- $40 MM and salary was a bargain at $7.5MM per year.

All just a show by the gov and very vindictive for other reasons.

Lots of media think Sumrall is the best “fit” for Auburn due to his connections in the state of Alabama (coaching at Troy and being from Huntsville).

The more I learn about him, the more I think he's the best option.

Younger guy. Defensive minded. Has experience in Alabama. Has won at two underdog programs.

Biggest question is can he play schmooze and booze with our lunatic boosters.
