An attorney posted an couple interesting observations regarding Kelly's buyout.

quote:

Interestingly, Brian Kelly’s contractual obligation to find another job is spelled out in just one sentence of his LSU contract with no reference to what he must do to show he is trying to find a job or what the consequences will be if he doesn’t meet that obligation.

Compare that to Ryan Day’s contract, which provides protection for Ohio State by requiring proof of mitigation and makes clear that his failure to mitigate will terminate his buyout payments.

The difference in these two contracts is significant, to say the least.

Keep dreaming.

He's getting way more than half.

Yes, you are correct and most of it is paid for.

LSU fans spent months ridiculing Texas A&M over Jimbo’s buyout.

With good reason. It was an objectively worse buyout than the one BK has.

What in that contract would prohibit Kelly from signing a $10,000/year remote advisory position with a G5 or D-II school? That would ensure that they couldn’t trigger that mitigation clause, and LSU would still on the hook for nearly all of his $9 million/year buyout.

I didn’t negotiate either contract, but one is objectively worse than the other. You’re an idiot if you can’t admit that.

Brian Kelly exercising due diligence and good faith in seeking qualifying employment...

On the flip side, Jimmy Sexton is slipping...

A huge % of our own fanbase ridiculed Woodward for giving Kelly this contract when the details were announced.

The overwhelming majority of LSU fans never liked the contract. The percentage of fans liking Kelly as the new coach was probably split 60-40 in his favor.

I never liked the hire or the contract. I thought both were dumb and reckless.

This thing will end up in court. And Kelly will probably end up with the most of the buyout. It's about to get ugly.

LSU already has all the funds in place for his buyout. I don’t know why you guys keep harping on this. I fully expect most of his buyout to be paid and it’s all funded.

Next subject.

Nope, not with the way your retarded AD handled it.

Why? If they agree to terms it won’t.

Both were essentially the same contract - $10 million/year with 90% guaranteed. Jimbo had a couple more seasons left on his contract than Kelly
.
The same AD negotiated and signed both contracts. And now he holds the record for the two biggest buyouts in college football history - $77 million and $54 million. $130 million to not coach.

Watching LSU fans spin that this is different is very entertaining.
