Kiffin to LSU or Florida makes no sense if Ole Miss makes the CFP

With Ole Miss basically being a lock for the playoff, I really don't understand how he can take another job. Their first playoff game, which will almost certainly be a home game, will be on 12/19 or 12/20. If they win that game, their next game will either be on 12/31 or 1/1. I can't see any realistic scenario where Kiffin leaves before the playoff, so are LSU and Florida going to sit and wait around until Ole Miss' season ends?

LSU or Florida or Penn State can make the playoffs most years under Kiffin. Why would he touch Ole Miss’s ceiling when that can be the norm at a better program?

They will wait a while just to keep OM and Bama fans worried.

Nobody wants to accept this. But it’s the most important question. Can’t wait to watch people melt when none of the hires are coaches coaching still on new years

I don’t think UF is going to wait that long.

I doubt LSU does either.

Timing is terrible for this scenario which is great for OM.

I hear this and laugh. Of course LSU is not going to hire before the playoff's start....that is 12 playoff caliber coaches that we are not supposed put on our radar? Keep dreaming. We can get players later, we need to plan long term and not be concerned with next years recruiting class.

Except, you can't. HS signing day is passed. Transfer Portal is nearly over or already over depending on how far the coach goes.

Who is going to keep the current kids on the roster? Whose going to sign new kids?

It's a pretty big problem that clearly wasn't considered when the new rules went into place.

Alabama hired Kalen DeBoer on January 12 after he played for a National Championship.

Or leave TN in the worst exit in college football possible? That guy knew he had to start over and that is why has helped him grow....you guys think his final plans are FAU>OM and that's it? I'm not trying to piss in OM cereal bowl today....but, all the money in the world is not going to be what matters to Lane. He has plenty of money. Now does he have the balls and come and try to lead the Tigers? We will see. But, something tells me he wants to see if what he has learned at these last two spots could help him brew up something truly special at LSU. I could be wrong, and i'm fine if not. There are plenty of other coaches out there that will want to coach the Tigers.

Penn State

I appreciate that it's unlikely he'll wind up there, but Kiffin would absolutely MURDER the B1G if he took the Penn State job.

I think that's what you call being fired.

You do realize his agent can fully negotiate and he can agree to a new position with another school while he’s still coaching OM, right? He’d just have to inform OM the moment he inks.

Both Florida and LSU have higher ceilings than OM, so long term it makes more sense for Kiffin to jump to one of those. Like him or not, if Kiffin is who Woodward has his sights set on he’ll swing hard and early. And if Kiffin wants to make a jump, he can’t wait until after the playoffs. LSU and Florida won’t wait to start negotiations.

All of this can be buttoned up before OM plays the first playoff game.

I think it will all come down to how Lane wants to live his day-to-day life and what he values the most at this stage of his life. No idea if that's at Ole Miss, LSU, or Florida. All have different things they can sell him - and despite what anyone says absolutely no one other than Lane knows what's going on in that head of his and what he values most right now.

TBH, so do the LSU and Florida fans. It's just silly season come early this year.
