You know one thing that’s worse than a potential trap game?

Playing a potential trap game and having Joe Tessitore and Jesse Palmer as the commentators.

That’s what we face this weekend, my friends.

They're not doing the 11:00 am game? I thought that was their time slot this season. Geeze, I can't stand those two.

ESPN uses those shitheads to throw shade at us. I’m willing to bet that Tessitore will bring up the 2010 game at least 20 times throughout the game. frick ESPN and the horse they rode in on. I despise that network.

Got cussed at by a grandma walking out of that game headed back to my car.

Also saw gamecock fans punch and try to drag a Bama fan out of his car on the same walk.

To say their fans didn’t handle that win well is an understatement.

The ghost of Stephen Garcia, top 5 team rat poison and DeBoer’s record away from home all going against us in this game

The dbag will be jerking off and bringing it up after every positive yardage play by USCe. Jesse will have to wear a hazmat suit in the booth.

No doubt. ESPN wants our program to fall. They were openly pulling for Missouri two weeks ago when we played out there.

Agreed. I know there isn't much love for it, but I thought the pinnacle of Saturday TV college football broadcast was Gary and Vern back in the day. (My wife used to say, their music alone would get her in the mood. I'll accept it)

I think people who look at it this way are drawing the wrong conclusions. Yes, there are ESPN production crews (behind the scenes and on camera) that call games actively selling the upset possibility of games that fit the profile. They will call the game to grab the attention of the casual viewer by providing some reminder of the stakes and improbability of what they are watching. However, I think most of these productions are ultimately just trying to create good television not actively despising the favorite. The upset dollar is a good dollar from a marketing perspective.

Gary and Verne/Nessler tried to split the difference and somehow all the perennial favorites hate them because they sound like they are rooting against them but everyone else thinks they're glazing the favorites. There is no winning sometimes.

I'm sure there are true haters in the mix but I think the assumption of malice is less explainable than a commercial product trying to package their products in the most interesting way for the audience. People need to have a bit more thick skin or put it on mute and do something to sync the CTSN broadcast to the screen.

The reason Tess and Palmer are such a bad crew is not because they really focus on the upset potential - which is probably the best storyline when you're on the C or D game in the lineup - but because the play-by-play is over the top and the commentary/analysis is phoned-in. Tess calls a game like a low brass player who thinks pianissimo is an ugly word. Palmer just straight up doesn't do any prep for these games because he's more worried about his next opportunity to hang out with a bunch of hot women for a reality TV show.

Tessitore is the SEC's version of Gus Johnson, but worse.

Agreed. I don't think there's any sort of intentional malice going on. They gear these broadcasts towards neutral fans because they know the fans of the teams involved aren't going to just not watch because they don't like the commentary. If a lot of people watch with the TV muted and the radio on it is of no concern to a TV producer. Tessitore and Palmer just suck at their jobs. You can listen to them when we aren't playing and they still suck because Tessitore is a blowhard jackass and Palmer is lazy and offers zero insight.

There is something about Gus that I find more endearing than Tess but I think it is distance. We've had but a small handful of games with him on the call but we can't get away from this MFer.

My kids, who rarely even pay attention to the announcers, can't stand it when he calls our game. As soon as they hear his voice, they say "This guy again!?!?". He rakes on their nerves! LOL!

Because he screams like a lunatic the whole time. He called our game against USCe last year and I felt like I needed an aspirin when it was over.

Only LSU fans could hate Verne. It was like watching a game with your grandfather. You mean they had good things to say about a team and coach during the most dominant 15 year run in NCAA history??? Like I said, only Swamptards could interpret that as favoritism. I loved Verne.

Overall I didn't have a problem with Verne or Gary. Though as he aged Verne started getting really bad at mispronouncing players' names, and making mistakes that were directly attributed to his aging. Again, no big deal but when you announce in the opening segment that the head coach of Alabama is Urban Meyer and give the wrong location of where the game is being played, it's time. This was starting to occur on a much too frequent basis.

Verne's greatest attribute was his entertainment value though, and knowing he'd screw those things up only enhanced the viewing experience. He was the slightly intoxicated uncle half paying attention to the game on TV at Thanksgiving, occasionally interjecting with a dramatic "Woooooow!" or "Oh my". Same reason Madden was so fun on a broadcast. You knew he was gonna say some shite like "if they can score this go ahead TD with 24 seconds left, I think they might win" or accidentally draw a dick on the telestrator, but that's what made it fun.
