He is 34-36 over all less 2014 and 2015. So no doubt he was hired 100% on fluke wins over Alabama.

If you removed every conference and national title team from Saban's record, he'd still have a winning record. Even if you exclude teams that "won" at least a share of the West division from his Alabama and LSU years, he still has a winning record.
74-42 (40-18 for LSU and Alabama) total in seasons when he won no hardware.
