He got coaching in the NIL era summed up in one quote. We will never see the like of that man.

He's a great coach, but I'm sure he's paid the wrong player a time or two.

I bet he's never paid a player in his life.
It would completely undermine his authority and he would be allowing a player to have control over his entire career because all they have to do is threaten to go public.
All it would take is 1 disgruntled player. Go watch the SMU/David Stanley story again if you missed how that happens. Many whistleblowers.
If shite happens, it's boosters doing it. Only stupid coaches pay players.

He was known as the hardest working recruiter in football to the point where they literally created rules to limit him.
So tell me, if you are just going to buy a player, what is with all the effort?
And why does a school like Alabama need to pay a player anyway? What does Missouri offer a football player that Alabama does not? We can certainly name all the things Alabama has to offer that Missouri can't.
It's not really the top schools that have to do that, they already offer plenty, the boosters are putting money into the programs with facilities and stuff - that was the real old formula. It's the schools that have less to offer who need to pay players to make up for it.
Now when it comes to boosters, that's a whole other story. I bet there are lots of parents out there across the country getting nice jobs, raises and so forth. I bet there are lots of "$100 handshakes" all across the country. You can't control the boosters really.
But to suggest a coach is out there buying players is generally going to be wrong.

Some are smart enough to remind everyone to keep it down home, cuz.
But even that doesn’t work out because when Cuz gets mad, he stopped keeping it down Home.

Right…but how was he so good at getting the RIGHT players? Coaching?

You must be confused. Nick Saban retired before the era we are in now where players are paid to play.

Every single school has paid players you dumbass. Of course the money comes from boosters. Every coach has paid the wrong players from time to time the same way every coach has paid the wrong coaches from time to time. The HC isn’t paying the DC.
Saban not only paid players, he purposely injured players. He got 5 Bama championships out of it, so joke’s on everyone else, I suppose.

This is an Southern tradition.
Go back to 2012 when Eddie Lacy ran wild against Notre Dame. We had 4 of the top runningbacks jump on our team after that season.
One that couldnt ever get on the field went to Tennessee and did great there and as a pro.
Saban was building a dynasty at LSU before he fuked up and went pro, where the GM tells you who's gonna be your QB.
Lucky for us.

As others have said... the big time schools' coaches don't "pay players" directly.
But they do try as hard as they can not to look at boosters who DO pay them.

Dude, you can't possibly believe an Alabama adjacent supporter hasn't exchange currency to an Alabama recruit to play for the Crimson Tide.
Has Nick Saban passed an envelope to a player or recruit? Probably not. Has be made his wishes known and it was taken care of after that? Abso-fricking-loutely.

They do not try hard to ignore it. They absolutely know it happens and they have a say in who boosters get. Especially a guy like Saban, who likely had ultimate say. No one was questioning that guy.
Doesn’t matter where the money itself comes from. Saban paid players, Miles paid players, Orgeron paid players.

You mean the very public information that you can look up for any team on a recruiting website?

You can't possibly be this naive.
If you ain't cheatin' you aint tryin' - Charles Barkley.
Im not just dunking on Alabama. Everyone in the SEC (and all other major to mid-major teams) are/were doing the same thing.
