Ok Xs and Os guys.

What in the frick is going on with our defense.

Is it scheme....players ....execution...etc

Personally I think we just ain't got the dudes up front. No pass rush, no push etc.

Or is it somebody figured something out Abt Kirbys scheme and we are just fricked.

I'm curious what everyones thoughts are? I know our roster is stacked

As soon as the Brooks Austin film study comes out in a few hours, you'll get a bunch of his opinions on this by a multitude of "expert" posters who quote him without giving him credit.

Hopefully we get it figured out these next two weeks, but I’m wondering how the Gators offense will operate with an interim HC

I expect them to play very well against us

I mean I used to talk about our defense making strides each week....but I'm not seeing it.

Few players doing better but over all...defense is historically bad

I think a lot of it comes down to scheme, either that or piss poor development. All our linemen ever try to do is bull rush; you don’t see any swim-moves, rips, spins, push-pull, just guys driving straight back. That tells me that their only real focus is containing the QB and eliminating running lanes. They’re scared of getting gashed by a QB slipping the pocket. IF we blitz, we might bring an extra outside backer off the edge or we run a double inside backer twist. That’s like 95% of our blitzes. Maybe we just so spoiled by having an entire front 7 of first round talent that could always consistently beat the man across from them, but our defensive scheme is painfully bland.

I'll give you my opinion before the Brooks video comes out.

We don't have a chaos creator on the DL or LB. We have very solid guys, but we don't have a "dude".

I think if we could have just one difference maker on the front 7, it would augment our defensive stats and point totals significantly.

I can’t remember a Kirby defense missing as many open field tackles as we did yesterday; most of them had a large impact on the game.

This. Even cleaning half of this up yesterday and we win by two TDs. We aren’t far off, but the defense is pretty damn bad right now. Hopefully we can improve. The good news is we play run heavy teams mostly the rest of the way. Texas, State, Florida, and Tech.

So many missed tackles. Just not used to the Dawgs doing this.

My biggest fear, Kirby and Schu running the same defense for ten years. Maybe they’ve been figured out. Lots of good coaches in the SEC

I think we have an analysis by paralysis problem.

That and are guys are coached to be gap sound to a fault. We don't let guys freelance when it comes to assignment football. That's why Damon wilson wanted to get out of here.

Kirby rather not risk a sack for giving up an explosive.

And even with our shitty defense this year, we haven't given up big plays very often. We just can't get off the field because it seems like every first down is successful.

Our run defense is good but with modern offenses, stopping the run doesn't mean what it used to. See Alabama. If you have a great scheme and a high level QB chances are you are going to be successful even if the defense knows you are throwing.

I think Kirby needs to adjust to a scheme more similar to Venables. I'm not knowledgeable enough to know what that would mean, but Venables defense is always aggressive and they are always playing fast. We don't look fast because we are thinking, imo.

Well yesterday we saw what happens when you sell out for a sack. That Chambliss kid runs to open grass or the middle of the field is wide arse open.

Yeah rushing with man to man behind you and no spy is a dangerous game.

Schumann ain't Lanning is basically the reason. No standouts in the front 7 that I saw during preseason unfortunately.

Griffin and Hall seem like the high ceiling guys but they need time to progress. Even with the pass rushers, its way more read than react.

They need to breakdown what's working in the 2nd half stick to the players that's making plays.

We are average as grits at 1-tech, 2-tech with no edge that has long arms, twitch and lean.

Kirby’s defense relies on fast disciplined LBs who can tackle. We ain’t got those horses this year

Brooks initial opinion- no film in this one.

Mostly talks about offense, but the points on defense were basically Lane is good and their offensive players were good. He talks a little about switching from zone to man, but he doesn't get real specific. The film study on Monday or Tuesday should be good.

Did yall know Gunner was playing injured? Anybody on TalknDawgs or any other "insider" places know anything about this?

Kirby said something about it in a press conference last week. I don’t think he was specific…I was only half arse listening.

I only half arse watched this game too but the games I’ve paid attention to, the bad defense looks like bad eye discipline. Mostly by the secondary. The lack of pass rush is probably just this group being young and haven’t “earned the right” to rush the passer yet. Kirby’s said this about groups in the past so I would imagine it still applies. Until they can mind their gap and look at the right things, they don’t get to rush the passer.

But that’s just going off past comments from Kirby and trying to apply it to the mess on TV.
