I come here not to scorn this ranking, but to praise it.

No, I don't think Indiana has the best team in the country or that they will win the CFP. But they've walloped good teams and played like a number 1. There is something to be said for showing up week after week and earning your ranking.

Not on what your talent should do. Or what you might do when things start to click. But on what you actually do in the game. The Hoosiers show up every week.

Alabama was so terrifying for so long because they played like Indiana but with way more talent. I tip my hat to Cignetti, if more coaches, including SEC coaches (Arkansas especially) got their teams to play like he does the sport would be much better.

I'm waiting until they play UCLA to crown them.

They should be ranked #1 and if they were one of the blue bloods they would be.

Highest ranking ever. Program with the most losses in FBS history. Haven’t won a bowl since 1991.

Coach of the year and playoffs in Cignetti’s 1st season and cakewalking to playoffs in year 2 after taking over a 3-9 squad. Props to that man for the turnaround

I wouldn't have an issue with it. They seem to have a better resume than Ohio St.

But overall, I don't think these polls matter at all.

Yes, they have. I know it's not as good as losing to usf at home, but beating Oregon in Eugene by double digits is pretty good.

They've had a really good 3-week stretch and can now sit back and relax until the conference title game and playoff selection show, since the only FEI team left on their schedule higher than #40 is QB-less and HC-less Penn State.

Hats off to them. They understand how to schedule OOC in the new era (don't give yourself a chance to lose ever).

Who is undefeated with a better win than Indiana? Oregon had never lost a big10 conference game.

Exactly.

Take the logo away and they clearly have the best wins / resume.

Dude can coach.

They should be ranked #2

As much as I hate the Suckeyes they are defending national champs and have not done anything to merit dropping.

With that said the remainder I would rank as follows

2. Indiana
3. Texas A&M
4. Miami
5. Alabama
6. Texas Tech
7. Ole Miss
8. Georgia
9. BYU
10. Georgia Tech

Don’t tell that to most ND fans…. I live in South Bend and they are hating on them hard around here. I’m an IU grad but grew up a ND football fan. It’s awesome what Cignetti has been able to accomplish so quick.

This attitude is the inverse of the old reddit joke from the Saban era whenever Bama would lose a game. It was a quality loss because "they only lost to the team that beat Bama"

Y'all are like, "It's not a quality win because they only beat the team that lost to Indiana." Except y'all are being serious about it. And that's stupid.

Why would ND hate Indiana when they’ve been so bad?

Penn State being OVER RATED resulted in Oregon being OVER RATED which is now the reason Indiana is OVER RATED.

I call it the Big 10 affect.

does the loss of their HC offset the loss of their QB?

The thing about Indiana is - with NIL AND a great coach - they can be extremely dangerous (from a sports perspective) if they chose to.

They have a TON of money. I just read where they have more living alumni than any other school in the country. They just took over the #1 spot (with Penn State & Michigan following).

They also have some of the best and well-funded specialty schools (the Kelly School of Business & the Jacobs School of Music) in the world. Plus, a huge and attractive campus.

Hats off to Bama for not scheduling La Monroe at Home anymore.
