No sure if he wants to leave IU, but look what he has done with 2 and 3 stars, imagine if he had 4 and 5 stars.

Surely nobody has thought of this...

Problem is he's 64 and his FBS sample size is small so there is still risk.

Dude's a good coach.

Cocky enough to make you hate a team like Indiana. I'd hate to see him at somewhere like Florida. Hope he stays in the B1G

Mid 60's, but would be good for a while. Guy can coach.

I remember when EVERYONE was claiming how great Tom Herman was and what he could with 4 and 5 star talent.

Hey Texas.... any input??

I don’t think this is ground breaking analysis.

The problem teams will have in going after Cignetti is that he’s pretty comfortable at IU - already making what Franklin was making at PSU.

And he’s old enough to be collecting a social security check.

You almost lost to Herman with the "greatest team of all time"?

If I am him I ride it out at IU for as long as I can. You are 64 yo, how many years do you really have left?

I'd use this momentum of other teams courting you to get a the biggest contract you can get from IU, stay there and ride it out.

But he may have the want/desire to see if he can win a traditional "blue blood" before he hangs it up

I guess time will tell

He's 64. Not for anyone looking for a long term solution.

You poor soul.... I didn't know that they had Win, Almost Won, Lost and Almost Lost columns in football.

Yeah, plus he was young and everyone was excited.

But I can't judge Herman now, cause for all I know he could've been a monster with a Texas NIL checkbook, assuming someone said, "hey moron, "you need more 5 star lineman and not wide receivers and DBs."

He also has a $10 million buyout. Which alone wouldn't be the end of the world for Penn State or Florida, but they're already paying large buyouts to their own coaches.

He’s a serious dude. And he’s 64.
So he’s probably going to tell any school that if they want a coach who is willing to jeopardize his current season for a shiny object down the road… then he’s the wrong choice.

He wasted too much time in his early years, and now he's 64. He can't get those years back.

He wasted 6 years being QB/TEs at Pitt, then did the same exact thing at NC State.

Then Saban hired him in 2007 and he only parlayed that into 13 years as head coach at IU-Pennsylvania and Elon and James Madison (while they were still 1-AA)

He grew up with his dad being the HC at IUP, I get it, but he should have taken more risks early on and become a coordinator early on

half the people who have him at the top of their list now, never heard of him 3 fricking years ago

yes, he should just stay put

I guess he didn't even want the WVa job last year, and he played there

Yeah, I look at obituaries from family and old friends of my parents, or sometimes old famous people who have died and I think "man, they were so old" and then I'm like "holy shite, I'm older now than they were when they died!"

and I'm not even a Boomer

Age is one thing, but the big issue is that he just signed a big contract extension. He's paid very well, with a sizable buyout at a school who is treating him like a king without the pressure. IU is ecstatic just to make a bowl game. He's giving them that and more.

He is a Pennsylvania guy, so I would think Penn State goes after him hard. If he is smart, he waits for a few more jobs to open up and he will get top dollar, and he has the schedule to run the table.

Man, I'd just earn my money from Indiana for a few more years and then go fishing and golfing

He's actually from southwest Pennsylvania which is more Pitt country and Morgantown, WVa country than it is Penn State. Very cool area.

But Penn State is a cool place as well. Pretty rural.

it'll be interesting all around for him, plus he's probably going to be in the playoffs and he's not going to think about anything but that - I'm guessing

Honestly at his age, coming into a meat grinder demanding job could end his career. You think he has any pressure at freaking Indiana. Imagine being at most SEC schools. Penn St is way softer than most SEC schools in turning up the hot seat and that may be too much of a meat grinder for instant results at his age and their NIL.
