Stolen from On3 posters.

We pressured Simpson 5 times Saturday. Of those of 5 pressures he was 1-5 for 10 yards.
2)
Defensive success rate
2021 1st
22 8th
23 22nd
24 32nd
25 74th
3)
48th nationally in total defense. 38th nationally in total offense. Yet...
#1 team composite talent ranking.

Time to have a convo about Schu?
Or time to have a convo about Kirby's scheme?
The sack numbers have always been lacking even we had the freaks. But we would still get pressures. Our guys now may not be good enough to accomplish what Kirby wants and still be effective at affecting the QB.
Most likely answer is, though we still have high end talent, it's not as good as the 2021/2022 squad. But I'm sure the coaches know that too so you have to adjust your scheme at some point.
Im not enough of a ball knower to know the difference, but I look at a guy like Venables, who as a lay person, always has a defense that plays fast. He is also super aggressive with blitzing vs Kirby's more cautious approach. The playing fast aspect is key imo. Can't have guys thinking out there, so maybe we need to simplify the defense?

I wouldn’t question that on this board…

Well, since he IS the captain of this ship, it all lies at his feet. I'm very disappointed in Kirby right now, and don't mind posting it.

I am also not a certified football expert, but there simply has to be a way to be more impactful up front without having 5-6 first round picks in the front seven.
On both offense and defense, there is very little diversity of schematic background on this staff. That isn’t helpful in finding new solutions. Clemson is getting a lot of shite for that and for good reason, but UGA is almost as big of an offender at this point.

Transfer portal gives and takes away. Kirby is learning like all coaches and will have to take more transfers next year. Teams are being rebuilt all over country in one year. Look at Ole Miss for example and what they lost and how now are supposably the best team in SEC. Surely the UGA program can match $$$ with Ole Miss. Still have to recruit well, but times are changing fast and have completely turned 180 degrees. Kirby is a smart man, you better change fast are, get out like Saban. If not, take a look at Clemson, that's the old model. Also, IMHO, offense will be more in play than trying to dominate on defense. The 5,6,7 Million dollar QB's in college will be common place and edge rushers, corners will be much in demand.

Kirby is definitely smart but he is also stubborn as hell. See Mike Bobo and his overall conservative approach to offense throughout his tenure.
Or his answer regarding the Cash run on 4th down.

Kirby likes to think of himself as a gambler. That said, their are two types of gambler, those that fall for emotion and those who stick with logic and play the offs on every hand(this includes those who can count into a deck of cards or several).
The risk reward was out of whack and you have to take points there if you are a smart gambler, 10 minutes left, tie it up. Likely have 2 more possessions if they score.
To me, if you going to gamble, be a smart gambler who makes his own luck through logical. Play the odds conservatively if you can.

I heard somewhere that 70% of our starters are underclassmen? Maybe we just need to face the fact we have a lot of youth or older players being beaten out by younger ones that are going to make mistakes.

I would disagree and I'm not really sure what you're tying that into.
Kirby is the antithesis of a gambler. He wants everything controlled as much as possible. He wants his offense to limit turnovers and probably stresses that too a fault (see Gunner, who is in year 4 of supposedly the same offense yet is scared and unsure to rip a throw consistently vs zone).
He wants his edge defenders to not take chances and stay gap sound when rushing the passer because he's scared of scrambles
How many times have we been conservative before the end of the half with timeouts and plenty of time?
And look he is the best coach we've had and has taken us to heights we as a collective fan base have never experienced, but you have to know when to adjust. If you're conservative because you trust your defense to be able to control the game, but they haven't controlled a game for a year and half...it may be time to mix something up...does that mean change the defense or change the offense? Idk.

Just going through the defense.
Everette
Wilson
Allen

All guys that have been hear 3+ years I think
Bolden
Cole
That's a lot of experience on that side of the ball imo

I think we have both problems going on at the same time.
1) Young team
2) Stubborn coach regarding scheme and OC's
As the season goes along, the youngsters will get incrementally better, they are just too talented not too.
Not sure we can overcome the OC's. My prediction 10-2 or 9-3, which a solid change to make the CFP, but it could be close.

occam's razor here but the issues are pretty simple:
-we don't have near as much talent as we used to
-the portal takes away a lot of our talent so we can't develop them over the course of their career
-our defensive coaching staff is exponentially worse than what is has been
add it all up and you get what we're seeing

Man, I don't want to be a Munson or be viewed as a hater, but I see a lot of toss ups man.
Auburn
Miss State
Tech
Ole Miss
All teams that run offenses that give us trouble. Heavy on eye candy with mobile QBs and run a lot of pulling run plays. Truly would not be surprised to be in the 4th quarter with the game undecided in each of these games.
Florida
Lagway looks much worse this year but he was playing well before he got hurt last year. Great defense.
Texas
An unknown to me. We seem to have a good bead on Sarks offense but he has a lot stuff that gives us trouble too, he just is good a super negative playcall once per drive it seems.
To me, 10-2 or 7-5 wouldn't shock me with this crew.

This is an overall program stat, not a defense stat, but....
In their last 7 games against power five programs, Georgia is 4-3, with 3 of the wins coming in overtime.
The program is sliding noticeably, and if saying that makes me a "Cancer Dawg", then so be it.

I guess its time to adjust expectations for the program for this year, we are good not great

#1 in composite talent ranking though which has been a fairly accurate predictor for season success in the past. The talent is there.
Development time...maybe. but CJ Allen has been here 3 years. Still doesn't pop off the screen to me unless it's in a negative way.
Jordan Hall was a 5*. JJA was a 5*. They are "Just a Guy" to me.
Staff may be the key one. Fran Brown seems like that guy. Think we miss him dearly. The most obvious is probably losing Will.

Your a moron. Post less. NFL coaches know what I am saying, big games, points matter anyway you can get them.
Every mfer in the stadium knew the ball was going to Cash. The Bama defender went right to it at the snap, it's on tape.
