For years, my wife and I have tossed around ideas for making things more exciting for our daughter on Saturdays. One of the things we’ve decided to commit to is cooking food each weekend based on the opponent A&M is playing..

Looking for ideas from each fanbase about foods that represent your state or things that are popular at tailgating on your campus. Main course and sides, please!

A&M’s schedule: Auburn, State, Florida, Arkansas, LSU, Missouri, South Carolina.

Thanks and gig ‘em

You're from Texas so your idea of BBQ is probably brisket, but for South Carolina smoke a pork butt and use a mustard-based BBQ sauce. You can find several recipes online or order from Melvin's BBQ in the Charleston area, they claim to be the ones who invented it (if you go this route get the golden secret sauce).

Sadly Auburn doesn't really have a dish that is synonymous with the university fo the surrounding region that I can think of.

Personally, growing up on Crowley's Ridge in Arkansas I feel like my family just ate mostly your typical southern country style food. Fried meats, taters, etc. One constant being a big plate of sliced homegrown tomatoes on the table when in season. One thing my grandma always made for breakfast and that people I've mentioned it to, not from Arkansas, find strange until they try it is chocolate gravy and biscuits. Honestly, not sure how common it is for the rest of Arkansas though.

Auburn being from the State of Alabama I can help you out a little.

Chilton County Alabama is known for for its Peaches.

Peanuts grow in several counties in Alabama.

Conecuh Sausages is from Conecuh County Alabama.

Catfish and BBQ are big here. Order you a bottle of Bob Gibson BBQ sauce. It’s a white sauce.

My personal favorite is Golden Eagle Syrup. Golden Eagle is based in Fayette County.

Dales Marinade is an Alabama concoction. First made in B’ham. Better like the salt though.

I hope this helps you. All I can think of right now off the top of my head.

2 more things. I don’t know how popular they are with the rest of the state but in my family we about fist fight when my Grandma fixes a Banana Pudding or even better a pan of Chocolate gravy to put over our biscuits at breakfast. I freaking love Chocolate gravy.

Well, we won't see y'all on our schedule until next season (finally!) but for Kentucky making a pot of burgoo would be a good way to go. You could make beer cheese as an appetizer, serve with crackers or pretzels or celery carrots etc. Not sure what your access to mutton is down in Texas, but BBQ mutton is Kentucky's unique contribution to Southern BBQ culture. It's good but its mostly a Western KY thing, not necessarily something you're going to run into often at a tailgate at our stadium.

Of course the #1 obvious thing you need for us is bourbon. Copious amounts of bourbon.

Even the low(er) sodium version is a bit too salty for me, but it does wonders for churching up a shitty cut of beef.

I love it. I could drink it right out of the bottle. I like salt though. My blood pressure doesn’t like salt but the rest of my body does lol.

I had some blackened gator tail and some sport bar in J’ville Florida once. That shite was pretty damn good too.
