Why don’t they schedule real CFB games for Thursday nights anymore?

I recall A&M being on Thursday nights a few times in the early 90’s.
“The Hit” occurred on a Thursday night game while I was at a grad school function. I remember the crowd reaction watching it on a TV there.
I had a fall wedding in ‘95, but I chose a weekend where A&M had a bye week ahead of a Thursday game the following week. (Screw the other schools.)
NFL Thursday night games are usually decent games. CFB games are directional/private background noise.
Why not schedule something people actually want to watch? I get the “school schedules” and bye week (if needed) complications, but it would be nice to have an appetizer for the weekend.
They did it for a few years. Not sure when it stopped.

I imagine they probably stopped around the time the NFL started putting games on Thursday night. College football generally doesn't try to compete with the NFL for TV viewers.

Only an aggie could want to play on a Thursday nite. College football is meant to be played on a Saturday. As an LSU fan, on a Saturday nite. But to make sure you understand, LSU draws fans from all over, here in La. some come from 4+ hrs away. To get to TS, they'd have to leave work early. From Houston, either skip work completely or drive over.....Wednesday nite.

I would think this would be the same for all major D1 programs

Fair point.
I’m used to being in an alumni base where we own the companies and can take off whenever the hell we like.
Forgot about the proles. Thanks for the gentle reminder.

Mike Vick VT was the GOAT of Thursday night.

Thursday night is a NFL night now. Pretty simple.
They have moved good college games to Friday which is better for those wanting to attend anyway and the teams.
Thursday just really screws up schedules so I have no issue with it being NFL now.

The NFL stole the spot.
Sucks because I used to love Thursday night football as a kid… there were some classic games back in the day.

Let aTm play every Thursday night. I don't want to see LSU on a Thursday night

There was also some great West Virginia Thursday night games in the 2000’s.

If the Saints and Panthers played on a Thursday night and the marquee matchup in college football for that week was played on the same Thursday night, the Saints and Panthers would still dominate the ratings.
I don't understand the appeal of the NFL, but the NFL is king.

Best Thursday night game ever was when Oregon State had the two brothers and beat Southern Cal when they were a 30 point underdog. That was at the peak of Southern Cal's power. It was epic.

I also remember UGA playing Ole Miss one time on a Thursday night, or at least I think I do.
