Thought he looked real sharp. Impressed by his reads, quick release and accuracy. Was not expecting him to be so quick in the run. I had envisioned him more as a pocket passer. Is he considered a dual threat QB?

I was saying the same thing the other day. I was very impressed with his play.

I thought he looked a bit better than Gunner to be honest and at 6'3" he has potential to be a better pocket passer.
But at 205lbs he is has a much more slender build so I don't think we would want him taking many hard hits.

Seems like he has a live arm for sure. Rusty says he still has some work to do with decision making. Threw some pics in fall camp but may be result of trying to do too much

Ideal world I think Gunner is a one and done and we keep Pig for 2026 and bridge to Curtis

He looked sharp especially with the backups blocking and catching in some plays.

Absolutely, the arm talent was extremely apparent & it looked like he can almost throw guys open.

I keep hearing that he needs to work on his decision making/reads etc. - all the cerebral parts of being a QB. But if our QB1 gets injured, we are in a LOT better shape than most imo

A freshman running back is usually the most popular player on our team with fans. Looks like this year we're opting for the backup quarterback, which is the more traditional college football fan approach.

Good arm and mobility. Hard to get too much of a read from what I saw, but it was encouragng.

From quick searches Gunner is probably a day 2 draft pick; so 3rd or 4th round. Obviously it will all be determined how he plays in the big games. If I had to speculate, I would think he comes back for his senior year. Pug would still have 2 years left of eligibility so we'll see. I remember we had similar thoughts on Vandergriff until it was apparent Beck beat him out for #2.

I would bet Pug transfers if Gunner stays.

Depending on the season outcome, it may be hard for Kirby to truly have an open competition going into next year of Gunner returns.

Kind of like a quasi Fromm/Fields situation. Don't see Kirby letting anyone but Gunner win that "competition". ...again depending on season outcome.

I did read that the coaches are more open to allowing Gunner to run and calling QB run plays because they are confident in Pug as a backup...if Gunner were to go down with an injury.

And this is all very reactionary to a couple of series from Pug. He looked great but who knows how he would do as starter.

I think Curtis committed to us with the expectation of starting in year 2, so you have that issue too.

I mean it’s not complex. If Gunner plays well and comes back he starts 2026 and Pug and Curtis battle for 2027.

I think fans underestimate Gunner's arm strength because his the long arse wind up. He can sling it though. The TD pass to Humphreys was a 98 mile per hour fast ball right down the middle. Gunner also has the 72 yard throw on his high school highlight tape. The wind was probably blowing but frick it. 72 yards will never not be ridiculous.

Rewatching the game, the main thing that concerns me about Gunner right now is he's staring down receivers and telegraphing passes real bad. Ideally he'll get better at not doing it the more experience and the more starts he gets. But until then, we'll see more batted passes. And at some point, if he doesn't get it fixed, some DB or linebacker is going to jump a route and take one of his passes back to the house. The one Marshall guy could've done it on one of the passes to Branch if he had more confidence.

Yeah, again I just don't see Pug staying around, which whatever. They say the Ryan Montgomery kid looks sharp too.

I hope that’s just vision that will get better with live reps. Running out there as QB 1 has to be a ton of pressure so let’s hope these two weeks help him out.

There were a lot QB1s that did worse this weekend so hopefully he makes the best of these games.

Nope. Wrong interpretation. Everyone is just glad our #2 and maybe future starter looks promising.

Also helped that Marshall's players had been on the field all day and ready to quit by the time Puglisi got in the game. They weren't exactly feeling peppy by the fourth quarter.

Are you speaking for the masses now lol? If Gunner shows the first sign of trouble, an internet genius camp will form and Kirby is playing the the wrong quarterback. It's the nature of college football.

So I wasn't the only one who noticed that. The way he starred down Branch on that TD screen gave me nightmares (A full 3 count)
That's a pick 6 against a SEC defense.
