SEC football generated over $800 million last season.

But the SEC is still going cheap and hiring gig labor for referees.

quote:

AI Overview

SEC (Southeastern Conference) football referees are typically paid on a per-game basis, with earnings in the range of $2,000 to $3,000 per game for Division I (FBS) football officials, which includes prestigious conferences like the SEC. This payment is often supplemented by expenses for travel and accommodation, and the specific amount can vary based on the official's experience and the conference's budget.

SEC refs are part time seasonal help who make $25,000-35,000 a year. Yet we wonder why they suck.

Its past time. honestly the NCAA needs to create its own ref network, so that we don't have conference refs. This needs to be done for Football/Basketball at the least

Perhaps you would like to expand on that? The numbers aren’t right? Or the SEC shouldn’t have full time refs? Or you just want to say I am wrong?

I posted awhile back it's time to make officiating SEC (or any major college conference) FB a full time job. Pay them enough so this is their only job. If you have to pay them $150k-$200k per year, so what? How much money does power conference FB generate?

But they don't get to sit on their arses from Sunday to Friday during the season or from January to August in the off-season. Make them have review sessions during the week in-season. Make them attend clinics and do simulations in the off-season. Have alternates. One effs up, suspend him/her and dock their pay. Promote/demote accordingly.

Grade them like NFL officials and the best get the playoffs and the worst go to wherever the most miserable bowl game is played. Memphis and/or Shreveport come to mind for the worst.

That part time model is not going to change anytime soon. I've known a few SEC, ACC, SWC and B1G refs and none of them would be willing to do it full time. All of them were successful full time business men in their own rights.

Furthermore it's not feasible. When you crunch the numbers and say, avg $100k a year plus expenses, benefits, etc., .... just crunch the numbers. Then add basketball refs and baseball umps .... it's not feasible.

Michigan just paid $10 million to an 18 year old QB. Schools in total are spending over $2 billion in NIL this year.

But there isn’t enough money in college football to pay referees $120k a year.

Well they can GTFO. They are horrible at officiating and prove it game after game after game.

If anything.. they get worse as the years go on. If I have to sit through another game on the level of 2017 and then 2018 Alabama-MSU… I’m gonna need a tranquilizer to keep from absolutely losing my shite.

So if I text my buddy Danny Gautreaux and say hey Dan, I'll pay you $5,000 to throw the game, he's basically gonna take that almost every single time?

Better yet, outsource it to a private company that hires and trains refs. There's no reason why the same guy that officiates a football game can't also officiate basketball and baseball. All it takes is training.

"Professional refs" have nothing to do with it. There is too much money in CFB, especially the gambling, for it to be left to chance. How do you know that the current "officials" are not being paid with dark money? The games will be managed according to what the ptb want. It's not an abstruse concept, Dalton.

I doubt he would risk losing his job and facing the legal ramifications if caught for $5,000.

But what about $100,000 cash?

There is a very compelling book that lays out how the mob has their fingers in NFL officiating, fixing games here and there to win huge bets. If a guy made a $1 million bet on a game and knew he could pay a head referee $100,000 to ensure he won… no that could never happen. People are too honest.

Got ya. Your argument is that every game already has a predetermined outcome.

White Tiger, do you believe the Earth is flat? I don’t know if I have ever conversed with a Flat Earther before.
