So what did you NOT see that you wanted to?

Lots of good, definitely some things to nitpick, but what did you not see that you wanted to or that drums up concern for you?
-I wanted to see what Roderick Robinson could do after 2 years. Nothing there.
-the lack of “push” on the offensive line is still present but I loved seeing our TEs driving people down field.
-I am sure the game plan was win your matchups but a little bit of tactical planning outside of showing we can run the read option would have been cool.
-not a single deep ball completed (though few attempted) those are reps I want gunner taking every chance he gets.
-I didn’t see much in the way of pressure against a very overmatched o line.
Anyone else with anything?

I was really hoping to start the season without significant injuries, and then our starting RG goes down in the first frickin quarter. Hopefully not a major thing for Gaston. On the plus side, the backup did a decent job from what I saw. Number 70 was the initial replacement, not sure who that is?
I believe the pass downfield to Luckie? would've been completed if he wasn't held.
For whatever reason, Kirby never plays pressure pass defense against these cupcake opponents. I think he wants those guys to practice strict assignment football during the easy games. Three out of the last four seasons we've averaged more sacks against P5 opponents than against non-P5 opponents.

We ran the spread option, some old fashioned dive plays with different blocking techs, we ran jet sweeps, we ran counter at least once.

As far as pressure, we definitely put pressure on the QB. We didn’t do it at the expense of giving all 3 QBs a chance to run. Made them throw with happy feet and collapsing pockets. That is kinda Kirby’s thing.

I mean I’m not surprised we didn’t run the ball great on hand offs on 1st and 2nd down. Marshall played really heavy boxes on early downs then dropped a lot of guys and varied where pressure would come on 3rd and long. They keyed on Frazier really hard in particular which is why Gunnar keeping the ball on some reads and speed options was so effective.

I'm not an expert, but Bo Hughley actually looked like an upgrade over Greene. He's a little leaner, but looks faster to me.

I wanted to see the Oline push people around, heard they did it a lot during practice the past few weeks.. Run blocking was so-so, along with pass protection. I think they did okay. A lot to clean up going into Knoxville in a few weeks!
Wanted to see the defense be aggressive and tackle, I thought they did that well.
Gunner running so much made me nervous but, I respect him taking what the defense gave him.

That’s my only gripe. That and we got a little sloppy around the end of the second quarter.

The same with Noah. That guy had a handful of jersey for like 10 yards.

There were a few situations where he had receivers open but decided to run anyway. He ended up with 10 rushes and they need to get that down to 6 or less per game. Otherwise, the odds of him getting his bell rung will be much higher against a better defense.

Yeah, I wasn't gonna comment on Greene. I'm not sure if he has ever completely recovered from his back surgery.

He played well, Uini also. We need both of them to continue to step up in light of potential injuries to Gaston and Greene. Need Jah Jackson, Calhoun and Cortez Smith to all contribute also.

1) At the risk of being labeled a Cancerdawg, I was less than thrilled with our rushing offense the first half with specific regards to the RBs. With Marshal having 72(I think) new players, I expected to see us run at will against them and when we couldn't ...
2) Receivers seemed to still be plagued with getting separation. Thank goodness for a QB who can run the ball.
3) Offensive production as a whole was less that stellar.
4) Defense looked great as in 2021-2022 great.
5) Pug looked really good for a backup QB. He seems to have a quicker release and a zippier ball than Stockton. Also seems to be accurate. Made several throws where the receiver caught it in stride. Stockton may have also but Pug stuck out to me for some reason.

At 6'1" and a slow release, I don't think Gunner is going to be an effective pocket passer against talented defenses so I would like to see more rollouts with the option to run, pass or pitch out to trailing running backs.
Stetson Bennett was very good at doing this in Monken's offense.

Wanted to see a bruiser back, but now I question if we'll see McCray or Robinson at all this year.

Rolling out takes half the field away to pass. Bennett did some roll outs and scrambles, but he made a ton of passes from the pocket.
