Didn't some of our transfers from UW also transfer to UW?

His best QB at UW was a transfer.

That he coached prior. One of his claims to fame is that Penix was only good when paired with KDB

Once again I’m shocked. I loved the hire. Never thought I would’ve given up 14 games in

We have and had a massive internal rot issue at the end of the Saban era.

-WRs stopped blocking the edges
-The OL was a massive failure to recruit and develop guys.
-RB identification and development is down but some of that is due to OL.
-QB has been a massive issue but unique in that 4 targets there are starting elsewhere or on a roster in the NFL but we couldn’t get functional play there for three consecutive years.

-DL I think has been down due to scheme as I harp on constantly
-LB recruiting and development has declined
-The secondary has actually been recruited and developed very well. We’ve had all conference guys all over the place back there suggesting Saban was still very hands on with that group

Holstein, Lonergan and Sayin are all playing well at other schools.

Holstein is interesting because a lot of the Louisiana guys said he was better than Manning at the HS level which given what we saw yesterday is entirely possible.

But the point at QB is you don’t need an NFL guy to run the DeBoer offense which incorporates a lot of air raid concepts. You just need a guy who can sit back, read and deliver short to intermediate throws accurately which absolutely was not happening yesterday.

Maybe because they weren't recruited by Bama so they don’t think they’re better than they are. May just be me but I feel like some of the players feel like the script A on their jersey means they just have to show up.

All they’ve known their entire life (literally their entire life) is a dominate Bama. Many don’t know about what it was like before Saban. They’ve heard of the standard and talked about it but don’t think it’s the same. The standard they speak of is winning, dominating, etc. They don’t realize that’s not the standard. That’s the outcome of the standard, and we are far from THE standard.

This

And to the OP, I also wondered why Bernard was the top WR over Williams. Bernard balled out though whereas Williams dropped a couple, so I dunno.

No, he just hired a scrappy DC because he chose to hire his buddy instead of someone qualified.

Had he hired a good DC we don't lose 3 of the 4 games and that is with a inconsistent O, bad QB play and WR drops.

KDB is an idiot because he kept Wommack. Norvell knew he had Alabama and went to hire a guy who is known to give Alabama problems offensively as his OC.

He learned a lesson and made a good hire and not a comfortable one

Not really. You have to remember that in the final years, Saban relinquished a lot of control to assistants in his last years and we had absolute dogshit assistants. I would not be shocked if it came out that we recruited entirely based on Rivals.com for at least 3 years. There was little to no development of our now-upperclassmen.

The rot set in long before, and it was probably going to get bad even if Saban stuck around; it just wouldn't have seemed so because Saban got just enough out of them to win 10 games. Not to mention keeping Milroe around absolutely fricked us in the quarterback room.

Year 2 though... that's on DeBoer. He should know who the problem cases are now and if hey want to transfer, let them because they're doing jack all here. He's unwilling to do the unpopular. He's trying to Ted Lasso a group of primadonnas who don't want to be coached at all and the results are pretty clear.

Zero issue with Bernard. I put Williams’ lack of production last year more on Milroe than anything.

My comment here was more around Williams being in the slot and not WR. But that may be in order to create mismatches. William got more targets yesterday than he did the whole back half of last season with number four throwing the ball.

Again zero issue with Bernard. Just found it interesting.

He had numerous terrible assistants. Several were DC's.

It was getting bad. On one hand, we made it to the playoffs in his final year but on the other, we were one play away from losing to an embarrassingly bad Auburn team, Arkansas and A&M team. 40+ players transferred or went pro and that was all it took for the dam to break.
