This looks at the roster and ranks players based on their talent level coming out of high school. 24/7 has been doing this since 2015.

Every national champion since 2015 has been in the top six of this ranking except for two (Clemson was #9 in 2016 and Michigan was #13 in 2023)

This year's top six:

1. Alabama
2. Georgia
3. Ohio State
4. Texas
5. Oregon
6. LSU

Other SEC

8. Texas A&M
12. Auburn
13. Florida
14. Oklahoma
16. Tennessee
18. South Carolina
21. Ole Miss
22. Missouri
23. Arkansas
24. Mississippi State
27. Kentucky
55. Vanderbilt

Mississippi State is #24 in the country in talent and is #14 in the SEC. Arizona State is the defending Big 12 champion and returns 17 players from a playoff team and is #33.

Interesting.

Although, their old metric may not apply in today's transfer portal and NIL world given some players often grow exponentially both size and experience wise between HS and then smaller college and then, let's say, their junior year, around the time they turn 21-22 years of age .... which is unmeasurable using 24/7's metric.

Their methodology is flawed.

It is a snapshot of high school recruits. It does not factor in experience or player development.

The talent roster composite says a true freshmen second string 5 star is a more talented player than a returning All-American senior who was a 4 star recruit.

Texas has 3 starters as N/A

Michael Taaffe - S Walk-on
Trey Moore - LB/Edge Transfer from UTSA last year
Jack Endries - TE Transfer from California this year

Taaffe's story is incredible. They might make a movie about him one day..

The Big 12's most talented team would be our #16 team.

You are not a power conference when you don't have a single member who can pull in top 25 talent. I would argue you need at least 2 teams who can recruit top 10-15 classes to be a "power" conference. The SEC has 9 and tons of top 25 depth behind that.

Taffe shut down Jermiah Smith to one catch last year in playoff

If Deboer misses the playoffs this year, he has no excuses. Year 2 is typically the year when elite SEC coaches start kicking arse.

Ohio St couldnt roll a joint on a Saturday night to impress a high school Hussy

LOL!

But OU might get embarrassed by teams like USC, Florida and Clemson…..and Boise…..and Navy

This aint chokelahoma, we look at the whole nation instead of work all year to win red river.

Keep your eyes peeled. Texas wins comfortably

Looks like 2025 LSU will be the most talented team (on paper) Kelly has ever coached.

Next year you will argue that all four teams who beat him were more talented.

Auburn, since 2015, has had between 44-46 kids on the roster with 4* or 5* ratings all eleven seasons since they started keeping track, except for 3:

2022: 34 kids (Harsin’s 2nd season)
2023: 35 kids (Freeze’s 1st season)
2024: 43 kids (Freeze’s 2nd season)

This season, Auburn is back up to 46 such kids.
