Former UCF coach Gus Malzahn "just got up and left," sophomore defensive back Jalen "AP" Heyward said.

During an episode of the "Meet the Knights," on the Charge On: A UCF Football Podcast's YouTube channel released Monday, Heyward and fellow defensive back Braeden Marshall opened up to host Sean Green about last season, including Malzahn's departure, which Heyward said "really shocked" the team.

"We're in the business," Marshall said. "I mean, things happen. Coaches come and go all the time. It's just... gotta keep it the main thing, for real."

Heyward went into more detail.

"We had a meeting, and it wasn't even like we had a meeting, it was just like next week came and he was gone," Heyward said. "So, we didn't really even... he didn't even have no meeting telling us he was gonna leave or anything. He just got up and left."

"It kind of shows you where his mindset and head was at when he showed that he really didn't care for us how he said he was to the media."

Tuberville leaving Tech during the recruiting dinner is still king here.

Bert even tried to make a rivalry out of it, and Bert proceeded to mostly get his arse kicked.

Players can leave whenever they want in today’s CFB, so I don’t blame a coach when they choose to walk away.

I’m sure the player wish the man who recruited, coached, and counseled them would have said goodbye.

But I’m equally sure the administration didn’t want him to have any opportunity to recruit players for his next gig.

I don't know. The way Tommy Tuberville left Texas Tech always felt like an all timer to me.

He’s the offensive coordinator at Florida State.

Pathetic.

This matters 10 years ago. Now UCF fans get to watch Heyward change schools three times over the next three years just to pull in another extra $150 per year and flip his old team off on the way out.

I remember when spoiled Malzahn cucks in Arkansas were angry that Malzahn didn't get the Arkansas job in 2008, and they openly trashed Bobby Petrino on message boards for leaving flyers in the Atlanta Falcons locker room, informing the players by paper memos that he was leaving.

Malzahn has an SEC Championship ring and Arkansas still doesn't.

IMO he's plotting behind the scenes the entire time to leave skid marks on your program and bolt. All coaches do that, but no one does it more than righteous and holy Gus.

At least you aren't generalizing

Maybe after his one and done at free shoes yall can finally call him home. Without an OL he comes with an 8-4 record, losses to all major rivals on the road, and at most one bowl win. So that's an improvement to what you are now.

He left Ole Miss in a similar fashion after a speech at the square and not talking to his team, no?

Players are in this for themselves as well. They will leave at an increase of NIL. So what, welcome to the new college football landscape. Money is the only family any of them care about.
