BREAKING: Tennessee is switching back to Adidas as the school's apparel provider, @Brett_McMurphy reports

Really is a shame because Nike did Tennessees uniforms really well.

Man I didn't even really appreciate they'd left - how long were they with Nike? No way it was 10 years?

According to the article, they signed with Nike in 2014.

in fairness to Addidas, they have done a much better job with uniforms the last several years

Nike fan apparel is cheap anyways. Haven't bought any of it in over a decade at this point

Im sure it's this, Adidas probably has some extra money and throwing out better offer's than NIke. I dont know if it play's into it at all but maybe teams are starting to consider not marketing for a brand that is trying to buy all the football talent in a league they compete in. I hated the fact that Adidas never seemed to be able to get our color right. Or even produce the same color on multiple uniforms. Hopefully its better than it was in the early 2010's

It's 100% money driven. Adidas must have ponied up a deal.

For a long time, the allure of cool sponsors and unis was a factor in recruiting (see., e.g., Oregon). Now, i'm pretty sure all they care about is the payouts. So in the grand scheme of things, we'd rather have more money than cooler jerseys.

One thing I want, bring back huge numbers.

Adidas is an absolute disaster from a uniform design standpoint.

Most of what they come up with looks like something you’d see at Walmart.

Idk why but I associate Tenn with Adidas the same way I do Utah/Texas Tech with UA.

I'd think the school would have final approval of any fabric color Nike sent them. Even if they got it wrong once or twice, the Athletic Department should be able to say "hey guys, this isn't the shade we talked about". Is that not how it should work?

I've been an Adidas man since way back in the 80s. Run DMC and Beastie Boys were a pretty heavy influence.

The adidas offer was roughly 300% more than Nike’s original and counter offer

Adidas is garbage. There's a reason why they paid so much $$$ to Tennessee. It's ultimately an inferior product.

Tennessee really didn’t have a choice. The Adidas deals is a lot more money than our current Nike deal and Nike didn’t make a counter offer.

Correct. Tennessee currently receives a little over $5.5 million a year in cash, apparel, and gear form their Nike deal. The new Adidas deal will raise that to $20 million per year.
